The early election results are proving that Santa Ana is not a liberal city. Although Democrats make up about 55% of our electorate they don’t get behind overly liberal candidates. Consider what just happened in the November General Election: Continue reading

Why Quirk-Silva and Solorio lost in the 2014 General Election
Orange County Democrats were ecstatic when former Fullerton Mayor Sharon Quirk-Silva knocked off Chris Norby in 2012, in the 65th Assembly District. They partied hard but the party is over now that former Ed Royce staffer Young Kim has trounced Quirk-Silva in the 2014 General Election.
This was not a casual loss for the Democrats. It may well end up costing them their super majority in the State Assembly – an uncertain matter as several Assembly seats are still in close contention.
Make no doubt about it – retaining the 65th Assembly District was the major goal of the Democratic Party of Orange County in the 2014 General Election. They failed – and there are several good reasons for that. Continue reading
Could Gilad Salmon become Santa Ana’s first Jewish City Councilman?
Santa Ana Councilwoman Michele Martinez has reason to worry as she prepares for her reelection campaign in the upcoming November General Election. But from what I hear she is not overly concerned about Mirna Velasquez, who appears to be her top challenger. No, Martinez is losing sleep over a candidate most Santa Ana residents have never heard of. His name is Gilad Salmon.

Findings from the study into the relationship between drink and politics across 50 states in the US over the past 50 years suggest a direct correlation between political beliefs and the demand for alcohol. Continue reading
Orange County liberals crashed and burned in primary election
It was not a good night for Orange County’s liberals, who crashed and burned in California’s first Open Primary.
Labor spent hundreds of thousands on Julio Perez‘ campaign for the 69th Assembly District. The result? So far he is in third place – ahead of Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez, wjho had 3,316 votes, and wannabe candidate Francisco Barragan, who must have run so as to keep Perez out of last place. Perez has 3,554 votes. Tom Daly is leading that race with over 8,231 votes. A Republican who spent no money, Jose “Joe” Moreno, is in second place with 4,495 votes. Continue reading
