Andrew Do has widened his lead over Lou Correa, in the First District Special Election, as the Orange County Registrar of Voters continues to process the provisional ballots. Do now leads by 239 votes whereas he previously led by 2 votes.

OC Chairman Spitzer Committed to Fair and Impartial Special Election Results
(Orange County, CA) — Results for the First District special election on the Orange County Board of Supervisors remain too close to call. The election night count showed just two votes separating top vote-getters Andrew Do (16,202) and Lou Correa (16,200) in the five-candidate race. 41,767 ballots have been counted, and there are an estimated 6,105 ballots remaining.
“As Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, I want to assure the voters of Orange County that our county government is doing everything in its power to ensure fair and impartial elections. The ballots have all been counted in the First District Special Election and it appears that former State Senator Lou Correa is losing by two votes to Andrew Do, who quit the Garden Grove City Council in 2011, according to the Orange County Registrar of Voters.
Do was supported by former Supervisor Janet Nguyen and by the CA and OC GOP.
Correa had a lot of support from unions and from OC Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and OCDA Tony Rackauckas. Continue reading
The early results from today’s First District Special Election have been posted by the Orange County Registrar of Voters and former State Senator Lou Correa is in the lead by 149 votes. Former Supervisor Janet Nguyen’s henchman, Andrew Do, is in second place with 38.4% of the vote.
Garden Grove Councilman Chris Phan is in a distant third place with only 5,824 votes. While he did a lot of walking he didn’t get in the mailboxes and that is crucial in low turnout special elections. Continue reading

Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido and Mayor Pro Tem Vincent Sarmiento as well as Santa Ana Council Members Michele Martinez, Sal Tinajero and Angie Amezcua are hosting a campaign fundraiser for Lou Correa, the only Democrat running for the First District of the Orange County Board of Supervisors in a Special Election.

Do is kissing up to those old, white voters…
I hate to say this but after seeing two of Lou Correa’s First District campaign mailers I am convinced that he is going to lose. He is running the same tepid campaign that helped Jose Solorio get his butt kicked in the November General Election, by Janet Nguyen, over in the race for the 34th State Senate District.
Why isn’t Correa attacking Andrew Do – Nguyen’s former Chief of Staff? While Correa is blowing hundreds of thousands sending “nice” mailers replete with pictures of him painting over graffiti, Do is busy working the Viet community – and Do’s mailers are clearly geared to the old, white Republican voters who still matter in the First District.
Correa’s campaign seems to be entirely focused on Latino voters – just like Solorio’s was. They didn’t vote last year in either the Primary or the General Election. Why would they vote in a Special Election in January? They are not going to! And no amount of pandering by Correa to the Viet voters is going to convince any of them not to vote for Do! They vote for their own, period! Continue reading
Predictably Andrew Do blew off the First District candidates forum that was held in Santa Ana yesterday. Why would he want to put himself in a position to have to explain why he quit the Garden Grove City Council in 2011 or answer the questions about whether or not he actually lived in Garden Grove at that time?
The rest of the candidates showed up including Lou Correa, Chuyen Van Nguyen, Chris Phan, Lupe Moreno and a write-in candidate, Mark I. Lopez.

There are several local candidates running for the First District of the Orange County Board of Supervisors – and several of them are looking for volunteers to help them as the special election is coming up very quickly, on Jan. 27, 2015.
Andrew Do appears to be the first candidate running for Orange County’s First Supervisorial District to get a campaign mailer out. The mailer is nothing special but it serves to establish that Do is backed by a bunch of mostly white Republican elected officials – and his former boss, Janet Nguyen. Notably he does not appear to be backed by any Latinos.
I checked Do’s campaign website and there also he does not list any Latino supporters. And his campaign Facebook page only has six supporters – which is probably why he needed to get the campaign mailer out right away. Do has been out of office for awhile, having resigned from the Garden Grove City Council a few years ago. I am not sure the voters know who he is. Continue reading

There might be a half dozen candidates interested in replacing Supervisor Janet Nguyen in the First Supervisorial District – but make no mistake about it, this race will come to two candidates – Andrew Do (Nguyen’s former Chief of Staff) and Lou Correa.
Do has already lined up the support of Supervisor Nguyen, along with Supervisor Pat Bates, Senator and Congresswoman-Elect Mimi Walters and Congressman Ed Royce. This means the OC GOP establishment is firmly lining up behind Do – not Garden Grove Councilman Chris Phan.
Correa already had about $600K in his campaign war chest – but now he also has the support of the Orange County Employees Association (the OCEA) and he has the backing of two high profile Republicans – OC Sheriff Sandra Hutchens and OCDA Tony Rackauckas. Continue reading
