OCSD Investigating Major Accident involving Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue Captain
MISSION VIEJO, Ca. (November 3, 2018) – This morning just after 8 a.m. OCSD deputies responded to the scene of a traffic collision on eastbound Alicia Parkway near Via Burgos in Mission Viejo. Upon arrival, deputies found the victim, a male bicyclist in his 40s, laying in the roadway unresponsive with visible head and body trauma. The Orange County Fire Authority responded and transported the victim to a local hospital in critical condition.
From initial witness statements, the driver of a van struck the victim while he was riding his bicycle eastbound on Alicia Parkway. The driver remained at the scene and was evaluated for DUI by an OCSD deputy trained as a drug recognition expert. He is suspected to be under the influence of a controlled substance at the time of the collision and multiple prescription medications were in his vehicle. Continue reading
Two arrested after OCSD uncovers stolen tools and equipment stashed in homeless encampment
MISSION VIEJO, Ca. (Oct. 12, 2018) – Two men are in custody after Orange County Sheriff’s deputies found thousands of dollars’ worth of stolen tools and equipment stashed in a homeless encampment in the city of Mission Viejo.

A wild police pursuit of a burglary suspect ended on Thursday in Santa Ana when the suspect ran into an Albertson’s Grocery Store located at 2000 E. 17th St., in north Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

HUSBAND CHARGED WITH STRANGLING-MURDER OF WIFE IN THEIR MISSION VIEJO HOME
SANTA ANA – A husband will be arraigned today for strangling and murdering his wife in their Mission Viejo home. Gary Lee Parsons, 74, is charged with one felony count of murder. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in state prison. The defendant is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned today, Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.
In the early hours of Feb. 3, 2015, Gary Parsons is accused of engaging in an argument with his wife, 73-year-old Barbara Parsons, inside their home. The argument escalated to a physical altercation and the defendant is accused of throwing the victim onto their bed and strangling her until she was unresponsive. He is accused of tucking her into the bed and leaving the home in his car. Gary Parsons is accused of calling a family member, who then called the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) to report the crime. Continue reading

Suspect Arrested in Mission Viejo Homicide
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – (February 3, 2015) – On Tuesday, February 3, 2015, Gary Lee Parsons, 74, Mission Viejo, was arrested in connection with the homicide of his wife, Barbara Parsons, 73, Mission Viejo. Gary was arrested following a homicide investigation at the couple’s residence in the 27000 block of Pueblo Nuevo in the city of Mission Viejo.
At approximately 12:35 p.m., Orange County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call from Gary who indicated he had killed his wife. Responding deputies arrived and detained Gary as he sat in his vehicle, parked in front of the residence. Deputies entered the residence and located Barbara, deceased inside the residence. Sheriff’s investigators responded and assumed responsibility for the investigation. Continue reading

Suspected DUI Driver Crashes During Pursuit by Deputies
LAKE FOREST, Calif. – (January 10, 2015) – On Friday, January 9, 2015 at approximately 10:30 p.m., Orange County Sheriff’s deputies initiated a pursuit of a 2002 Ford Explorer in the area of Toledo Way and Serrano Road. The driver of the vehicle was suspected by deputies of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Deputies pursued the vehicle for approximately (5) minutes through the cities of Lake Forest, Irvine and Mission Viejo. The pursuit terminated on southbound Trabuco Road near Carlota Road, Mission Viejo, when the vehicle was unable to negotiate a curve in the road and collided with an embankment.
As a result of the collision, the 18 year-old female driver was ejected from the vehicle and suffered life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she remains in grave condition. A 20-year old male passenger in the vehicle sustained moderate injuries and remains hospitalized; an 18 year-old female passenger in the vehicle sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from an area hospital. Barricaded Suspect Arrested for Outstanding Warrant
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – (October 9, 2014) – On Thursday, October 9, 2014, Orange County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Jason Nicholas Miller, 33, Mission Viejo, on an outstanding felony arrest warrant for domestic violence, stalking and violation of a court order as well as obstructing/delaying a peace officer resulting from today’s incident.
At approximately 10:00 a.m. this morning, deputies attempted to serve the outstanding arrest warrant on Miller in the driveway of the residence located at 26262 Avenida Calidad. Miller fled on foot and retreated into the residence where he remained barricaded for approximately four hours. Numerous commands and directives were made to Miller in an attempt to gain his compliance and surrender to deputies. Continue reading

Investigators Seeking Public’s Assistance Identifying Residential Robbery Suspect
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. – (August 22, 2014) – On Friday, August 22, 2014 at approximately 11:30 a.m., a residential robbery occurred at 23300 block of Via Linda, Mission Viejo. The suspect forced open the front door of the residence and confronted an 82 year old female victim while she was lying in bed watching television. The suspect looked at the victim and told her “don’t move” while he ransacked her bedroom as well as other rooms in the residence.
The suspect is described as a male, Caucasian, 25-30 years old, 5’6” to 5’8” tall, 150-160 lbs., brown normal length hair, wearing a white t-shirt, black pants and no facial hair. No weapon or vehicle was seen. Continue reading
Seven Confirmed Measles Cases in Orange County
(Santa Ana) – The Orange County Health Care Agency has confirmed seven cases of measles in Orange County in 2014, which is consistent with an increase seen throughout California. The most recent cases spent time in public locations in Orange County while contagious.
“We expect to see additional measles cases in Orange County, increasing the likelihood that you and your family may be exposed to the disease,” said Dr. Eric Handler, Public Health Officer for the County of Orange. “These new measles cases underscore the importance of making sure that you and your families are up to date with the MMR vaccination.”

On 12-8-2013 at 243am CHP received a 911 call from a driver northbound I-5 at the 22 freeway “gore point” of a possible body. CHP arrived, located the deceased identified as Martha Rodezo (51) Los Angeles. CHP started their investigation, Coroner was then called to the scene and preliminary review of the injuries believed that her death was not conducive to a high speed vehicle/Ped traffic collision; Coroner requested a joint investigation between CHP & Santa Ana PD Homicide Detectives. OC Sheriff’s Department Receives $100,000 grant to fight alcohol-related crimes
SANTA ANA, CA – (October 22, 2013) – The Orange County Sheriff’s Department has been awarded a $100,000 grant from the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to battle alcohol related crime. The Sheriff’s Department will use the funds to expand its enforcement efforts towards licensed establishments that operate in a disorderly manner, create an undue burden on law enforcement, and/or affect the quality of life in the surrounding communities.
