SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man was charged today with involuntary manslaughter after a teen was shot in the defendant’s home. Matthew Jacob Granados, 21, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of involuntary manslaughter by a lawful act in an unlawful manner with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a firearm. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 14 years in state prison. He is being held on $75,000 bail and is scheduled for a continued arraignment on Sept. 30, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. Continue reading→

EMPLOYEE SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS IN JAIL FOR CASHING DISABILITY CHECKS UNDER FALSE PRETENSE OF BEING UNABLE TO WORK

SANTA ANA, Calif. – An employee for a building remodeling company was sentenced today to six months in county jail for cashing in disability checks under the false pretense of being unable to work. Angel Monzon, 53, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty on Feb. 18, 2015, to one felony count of insurance fraud and two felony counts of making fraudulent statements. He was sentenced to 180 days in Orange County jail and three years of probation. Monzon paid over $25,000 in restitution.

On April 19, 2010, Monzon worked as a granite installer for Fermol Inc. in Huntington Beach. While working, Monzon lost his balance and fell while carrying a large piece of granite, which broke and landed on the defendant’s right thigh and knee. MAN CONVICTED OF STABBING-MURDER OF STRANGER IN PARKING LOT

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man was convicted today of the stabbing-murder of a stranger in a parking lot. Daniel Perez Munoz, 23, Garden Grove, (a gangbanger) was found guilty by a jury of one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a knife. Perez Munoz faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison at his sentencing on Oct. 7, 2016, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-40, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

On Jan. 11, 2014, Perez Munoz was drinking with friends in an apartment parking lot in Stanton. The defendant walked to the parking lot of a nearby business and approached a local family man, 52-year-old Phuong “Bob” Huynh, who was walking to a store. Perez Munoz confronted Huynh and stabbed the victim several times in the neck and chest. The victim took one or two steps before he collapsed and died at the scene from the stab wounds. SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is seeking the public’s help identifying potential additional victims of a travel agent who was charged today for defrauding approximately $40,000 from customers without booking or paying for their travel accommodations. Abdel Luis Rojas, 50, Westminster, is charged with nine felony counts of grand theft and two misdemeanor counts of petty theft. If convicted, Rojas faces a maximum sentence of seven years and four months in state prison. SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) convicted two men in July 2016 of loitering with the intent to commit prostitution or agreeing to engage in prostitution. The defendants in these cases approached a woman whom they believed to be a prostitute, or loitered in areas known for prostitution and human trafficking in Orange County. Each of the defendants below agreed to engage, or loitered with the intent to engage, in commercial sex with a woman and were subsequently arrested by law enforcement.

WESTMINSTER, Calif. – Vietnamese entertainer “Minh Beo” was convicted today of sexually assaulting a minor boy and attempting to commit a lewd act on a fictitious minor. Minh Quang Hong, who goes by the stage name “Minh Beo”, 38, Garden Grove, pleaded guilty today to one felony count of oral copulation of a minor and one felony count of attempting to commit a lewd act upon a child under the age of 14. Hong is expected to be sentenced to 18 months in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration at his sentencing on Dec. 16, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in Department W-2, West Justice Center, Westminster. Man who stabbed a concert-goer at Underground DTSA to be tried for murder

Juan Angel Rivera, a 22-year-old man, can face trial for stabbing a fellow concert-goer to death during a punk show at Underground DTSA , a downtown Santa Ana club, a judge ruled Wednesday, according to the O.C. Register.

Prosecutors are also going to pursue a murder charge against Rivera  in connection to the fatal March 3 fight  involving Rivera and Nathan Joe Alfaro inside the club. Continue reading→

This weeklong program began today and will include 35 to 40 hours of hands-on activities, culminating in a mock trial and a graduation ceremony on Friday, Aug. 12, 2016.

SANTA ANA, Calif. – An Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) deputy has been charged with unauthorized access of a law enforcement database to view criminal histories. Angel Lora Guerrero, 57, Santa Ana, is charged with two misdemeanor counts of receiving unauthorized privileged information. If convicted, Guerrero faces a maximum sentence of one year in county jail. The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned Sept. 6, 2016, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-54, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A former mosque volunteer is scheduled to be arraigned today on additional charges for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl who came forward after seeing media coverage of prior sexual assaults. Ahmad Henry Osman, 54, Tustin, is charged with seven felony counts of performing lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14 and one felony count of oral copulation with a child 10 years or younger, with a sentencing enhancement allegation for multiple victims. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 105 years to life in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration. He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned this morning, Aug. 2, 2016, in Department C-5, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

Osman is accused of violating his position of trust as a volunteer at the Indo Chinese Islamic Center (IIC) in Santa Ana. At the time of the crimes, the defendant taught classes at IIC and befriended the victims and their family members. Continue reading→

WESTMINSTER, Calif. – A striker was arraigned Friday, July 22, 2016, for the robbery of five Fountain Valley grocery and drug stores by threatening cashiers with a firearm. John Allen Wagner, 48, Westminster, is charged with five counts of second degree robbery. Wagner faces sentencing enhancement allegations for two prior strike convictions for residential burglary in 1987 and federal bank robbery in 1991, both in Orange County. If convicted, Wagner faces a maximum sentence of 175 years to life in state prison. Santa Ana woman gets four years in prison for DUI accident that killed a man

Rebecca Munoz, a 23-year-old Santa Ana woman, pleaded guilty Friday and was sentenced to four years in prison for gross vehicular manslaughter in a drunken driving crash that killed a man in Orange last year, according to the O.C. Register.

Munoz was driving her 2014 BMW 320i south on the Orange (57) Freeway at about 80 mph early in the morning on March 14, 2015,  when she made an unsafe lane change and hit the left rear of a 2002 Jeep Liberty, according to the OCDA. Continue reading→
