Community: OCTA Proposes 2013 Bus Fare Adjustment Community Meetings & Public Hearing
SANTA ANA, CA (September 14, 2012) – The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is proposing a bus fare adjustment in 2013 to help offset rising operational costs and dwindling revenue due to high unemployment and slow job recovery. Without an increase in revenue, OCTA may not meet the Transportation Development Act (TDA) mandate that passengers pay at least 20 percent of bus operating costs in order for the operating agency to qualify for sales tax funding. UPDATE: A four member city council voted tonight to unanimously put to the voters a four term limit of 2 years each for the office of Mayor.
I can understand why the Santa Ana City C0uncil Members are upset at Mayor Miguel Pulido. Let’s face it – he has been running circles around them for almost 20 years. But he is now dealing with a Council that, for the most part, he did not elect. He opposed Sal Tinajero and Michele Martinez when they first ran for the City Council. He did create David Benavides, but when Vince Sarmiento was appointed to the Council, to replace Jose Solorio, he was already his own man. Unlike Benavides, he was a polished product and a guy most people respected. Who would have forseen two Pulido allies going down in flames – Carlos Bustamante’s own alleged misbehavior did him in, and Claudia Alvarez could not undo the term limits she helped create. Now Pulido, like Julius Caesar, is surrounded by short swords and although we are headed into August, it might as well be the Ides of March.
Back in Pulido’s heyday, he and former City Manager Dave Ream knew how to work this bunch. Once they got elected, they would be warmly welcomed, even if they had initially been opposed. Commission appointments would be handed out like Halloween candies and just like that Council members would be subverted. But Ream is gone and so is his magic bag of redevelopment – and now even the developers that lived high on the hog in our town for so long are slinking to the Council’s side. Continue reading

Last season, the Angels Express provided service to 46 home games, and had more than 20,000 boardings. This popular service has returned for the 2012/2013 baseball season, with service along the Orange County Line to 50 home games.

The OCTA’s Bicycle Corridor Improvement (BCI) Program 2012 Call for Projects is a $9 million bicycle program available to local Orange County agencies. The guidelines and application are provided below. Eligible applicants must submit project proposals by 4:00 p.m. on April 30, 2012.
There is word on the street that a non-profit bike organization that supports bike trails in Orange County is going to file the necessary paperwork to complete the missing 1,500 foot section along Santiago Creek, in the Fisher Park/Floral Park neighborhoods and then turn the grant money over to the City of Santa Ana as a shovel ready deal! OCTA Seeks Applicant for Measure M Taxpayers Oversight Committee
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) is seeking qualified volunteers to serve on the Measure M Taxpayers Oversight Committee (TOC).
The eleven-member committee monitors OCTA’s use of Measure M funds and ensures that all revenue collected from both Measure M1 (M1) and the Renewed Measure M2 (M2) is spent on voter-approved transportation projects. The independent committee was formed after the passage in 1990 of Measure M, a half-cent sales tax to fund transportation improvements in Orange County. Continue reading
