Self-identified police officer from Mexico arrested for transporting more than 50 lbs. of meth
SANTA ANA, Ca. (October 10, 2018)- On October 9, 2018, the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Highway Interdiction Team initiated a traffic stop for vehicle code violations on the northbound I-5 freeway between Orange and San Diego counties. The driver, Miguel Patron, 41, Ensenada, identified himself, stated he was a police officer in Mexico and handed the deputy his police identification. Patron was extremely nervous and several criminal indicators were identified by the deputy conducting the traffic stop. Continue reading
The OC Health Care Agency has released a list of the eateries (including restaurants, caterers and even school kitchens) that they inspected and shut down for the week of Sept. 21 to 28, 2018. Most of these eateries reopen pretty quickly after the health inspectors determine their issues have been resolved. Here is the list:

Property Tax Postponement Program Accepting Applications on October 1, 2018!
Orange County Treasurer Shari Freidenrich announces that the California Property Tax Postponement Program (PTP) application period opens October 1, 2018. Information is available on the Office of the State Controller’s website, by calling 800-952-5661 or by emailing the state at postponement@sco.ca.gov. Funding under the program is limited and available to applicants on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The PTP, which has been reinstated after being suspended by the Governor in 2009, offers housing security for seniors and homeowners with disabilities. The program allows eligible homeowners who are blind, disabled or at least 62 years of age to defer Fiscal Year 2018-19 property taxes on their principal residence if they meet certain established criteria. Hugh Nguyen, the elected Orange County Clerk-Recorder, was born in Vietnam 50 years ago. He spent a lifetime looking for his father, an unidentified American GI. Nguyen’s mother, a South Vietnamese woman, told him that his father had been killed in action prior to Nguyen’s birth.
Nguyen never gave up trying to find out who is father was. He married his high school sweetheart, raised a family and became the top Vietnamese-American elected official in Orange County. Yet he still yearned to know who his father was. Nguyen finally caught a break when he decided to do a DNA test through Ancestry.com. Continue reading

OC Animal Care Accepts $100,000 Grant for Neonatal Kitten Care
On Saturday, OC Animal Care accepted a $100,000 “Save Them All” kitten grant from Best Friends Animal Society. The grant money will contribute to expanding OC Animal Care’s foster caretaker program and its program for neonatal, bottle-fed kittens.
The funds will be put towards spay and neuter services, all medical care, vaccinations, microchip and antibiotics for neonatal kittens. OC Animal Care’s goal will always be to find permanent, loving homes for all animals at the OC Animal Care shelter, and this grant takes us one step closer to that goal. Continue reading
ORANGE COUNTY RESCUE MISSION IN CRITICAL NEED OF MORE THAN 35,000 DIAPERS;
CALLS ON COMMUNITY FOR DONATIONS AND DIAPER DRIVES
Orange County, Calif. (September 12, 2018) – The Orange County Rescue Mission has announced a critical need for size 4, 5, and 6 diapers, boys and girls pull-up diapers of all sizes, and baby wipes for its high number of toddlers and young children living at The Village of Hope, the Rescue Mission’s transitional living facility in Orange County.
The nonprofit is urgently seeking help from the local community to provide a total of 34,700 large-size diapers, 2,500 pull-up diapers, and 121,875 baby wipes according to Jim Palmer, President of the Orange County Rescue Mission. Continue reading
A Message from the Orange County Mosquito and Vector Control District (OCMVCD):
Based on mosquito trapping counts collected on September 5 and 7, OCMVCD staff has identified high mosquito abundance in areas of Huntington Beach, La Habra, Orange and Santa Ana. The District’s current treatment criteria states that adult mosquito control is initiated when 75 or more female mosquitoes are identified in a mosquito trap per trap night, and all the areas have exceeded the threshold. Public Safety: Orange County Installs Secure Fencing at 24 Sites along Flood Control Channels to Prevent Homeless Encampments
Santa Ana, California – The County of Orange is installing new fencing at 24 sites along flood control channels to keep neighborhoods safe and prevent homeless encampments.
Supervisor Andrew Do, Chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, worked with city leaders, county staff and law enforcement agencies on the fencing projects in Santa Ana, Garden Grove and Westminster after reports of criminal activity, including a series of fires set by a homeless arsonist. I-405 set to Close Overnight Saturday in Huntington Beach, Westminster
Full freeway closure planned in both directions from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Aug. 25 between Beach Boulevard and Bolsa Avenue/Goldenwest Street
ORANGE – Interstate 405 through Huntington Beach and Westminster is scheduled to fully close from approximately 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25 as part of the I-405 Improvement Project.
The full freeway closure is necessary to finish safely demolishing the McFadden Avenue bridge over the northbound I-405 lanes. Half the bridge, over the southbound lanes, was demolished during an overnight full freeway closure on Aug. 18. Continue reading
Nationwide Foundation Donates to OC Homeless Shelter
The Nationwide Foundation is helping Orange County provide assistance to the homeless community
On Monday, August 20, Nationwide Foundation will present a $65,000 check to The Midnight Mission to install a pet area at Orange County’s Courtyard homeless shelter, one of the few homeless shelters in Orange County that accepts pets. There aren’t many places for homeless people with pets to go. As a result, many choose to continue living on the streets, where they don’t have the same access to services. Nationwide Foundation, The Midnight Mission and Orange County look forward to breaking ground on the project and reaching more of the Orange County homeless community. Continue reading
The Orange County Vector Control District is now saying that they did not conduct any aerial spraying of any chemicals in Santa Ana and surrounding cities yesterday. Well we never said they did! We pointed to their own Facebook page and website where they admitted to backpack spraying.
The OC Vector Control District is also claiming that the chemicals they used are water-based and odorless. Continue reading
County of Orange Reports First Human West Nile Virus Infection of 2018
(Santa Ana, CA) – A Tustin woman in her 70s was diagnosed this week with West Nile Virus (WNV) encephalitis. She is the first human WNV infection identified in Orange County, California this season.
In 2017, there were 38 reported human infections of WNV and 4 WNV-related deaths reported in Orange County. Most people who become infected with WNV do not experience symptoms, but about 20% will develop fever and may have headache, body aches, nausea, tiredness and sometimes a skin rash. More serious symptoms, such as severe headaches, neck stiffness, confusion, muscle weakness or paralysis, occur more rarely, but people who develop these symptoms should seek medical care immediately. People over 50 years of age and those with certain medical conditions are at increased risk of serious complications from WNV infection. Continue reading
