County To Temporarily Close Portion of Santa Ana River Trail for Project, Actively Enforce Public Access Hours
Beginning Monday, January 22, 2018, the County of Orange will temporarily close a portion of the Santa Ana River Trail (SART) from Memory Lane in Orange to Taft Avenue/Ball Road in Anaheim for an environmental remediation project. Upon completion of the project, estimated to last up to three months, the County will reopen the closed portion of the SART for recreational trail use during posted public access hours. OCTA to Use $75,000 Grant for Bicyclist and Pedestrian Safety
California Office of Traffic Safety grant will help fund safety training and materials
ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority has been awarded a $75,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety for a year-long community program dedicated to bicycle-skills training and distribution of safety equipment for people walking and biking.
The aim of the program is to increase safety and reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities. OCTA will use the funding as part of the agency’s ongoing commitment to deliver transportation solutions, including for active transportation – biking, walking and skating. Continue reading→

OCSD arrests three in open house burglary scheme
SANTA ANA, Ca. (Dec. 21, 2017) – Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department South Directed Enforcement Team (DET) have arrested three suspects accused of burglarizing multiple homes using a distraction scheme during real estate open houses.
Investigators believe the suspects started running the scheme in October 2017. A male suspect would distract the real estate agent, while two female suspects would search other areas of the home and steal items. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA, Calif. – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) will continue to serve as the statewide traffic safety training agency through its acceptance of two grants from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for a training and Vertical Prosecution Program. OCDA was given $672,500 for the Alcohol and Drug Impaired Driver Vertical Prosecution Program and $594,600 for the California Traffic Safety Resource Program Training Network. County of Orange Reports First Influenza-Related Death of Season
(Santa Ana, CA) – The County of Orange Health Care Agency has confirmed the County’s first influenza-related death this season. A previously-healthy male toddler died of complications related to influenza infection this week. Public Health Laboratory testing confirmed that he was infected with influenza A virus.
“This is an important reminder that influenza can cause serious illness, particularly in the very young,” County Health Officer Dr. Eric Handler said. “Everyone over six months of age should be vaccinated each year.” Continue reading→

County Announces Enforcement of Public Hours, Closure of One Area Along Santa Ana River Trail
Santa Ana, CA (Oct. 30, 2017) — On Friday, November 3, 2017, the County of Orange will begin active enforcement of public hours along the recreational Santa Ana River Trail (SART) that runs adjacent to the Santa Ana River flood control channel. In addition, beginning November 10, the County will permanently close to public use the west side of the flood control channel between 17th Street and Adams Avenue in the City of Fountain Valley.
OC Parks and the Orange County Flood Control District have had permanently posted signage declaring the public access hours along the entirety of the trail, though the hours have been inconsistently enforced. The public access hours will remain the same as currently posted, November 1-February 28 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and March 1-October 31 from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Starting November 3, 2017, individuals who access the SART outside of the posted hours will be in violation of state trespass laws and subject to citation. Santa Ana, CA (October 5, 2017) — Today, the County of Orange commemorated the one-year anniversary of its first County homeless shelter, the Courtyard Transitional Center in Santa Ana. Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Andrew Do, First District, who was instrumental in bringing the Courtyard to fruition, visited with staff and residents at the shelter to signify the milestone.
“The Courtyard was a response to a homelessness crisis in the Santa Ana Civic Center, and it has made a significant impact on the lives of the individuals who have taken advantage of the resources provided,” said Supervisor Do. “We have seen tremendous success in the last 12 months, with more than 153 people from the Courtyard connected to housing and more than 125 who are employed.
