Improving Motorcycle Safety Aim of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Operation
SANTA ANA, Calif. (August 13, 2015) – Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department will be conducting a specialized Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation on Monday, August 17, 2015.
Extra officers will be on duty patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur looking for violations made by drivers and riders alike. They will be cracking down on both those operating regular vehicles and motorcycles who are under the influence of drugs or alcohol, speeding, making illegal turns, or any other dangerous violation. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department is also reminding all motorists to always be alert and watch out for motorcycles, especially when turning and changing lanes. Continue reading

Suspects Arrested in Fraud and Identity Theft Ring
SANTA ANA, Calif. – (August 14, 2015) – On Thursday, August 13, 2015, Orange County Sheriff’s Department investigators arrested Nhan Hoang Pham, 29, Fountain Valley; Lam Thanh Bui, 30, Garden Grove; Chieu Bach Nguyen, 29, Santa Ana; Duynam MinhHoang Dao, 23, Fountain Valley; and Keeta Thilauan, 25, Santa Ana; in connection with several burglaries and thefts that have occurred over the last several months.
On the morning of August 13, 2015, with the assistance of the Sheriff’s Department SWAT Team and Orange County Probation Officers, Sheriff’s investigators executed a search warrant at a location in Santa Ana, as well as three probation/parole searches in the cities of Santa Ana and Westminster. The search warrant service and probation/parole searches were the result of an ongoing investigation into several thefts and burglaries that occurred throughout Sheriff’s Department jurisdiction in North Orange County. High Temperatures Bring Risk of Heat-Related Illnesses
(Santa Ana) – Temperatures in many inland Orange County communities are expected to reach high temperatures above 95 degrees this weekend, increasing the risk of heat related illnesses like heat exhaustion and heat stroke for those who are more sensitive to heat.
Prolonged exposure to excessive temperatures may cause serious conditions like heat exhaustion or heat stroke and can even be fatal. Symptoms of heat exhaustion may include heavy sweating, muscle cramps, weakness, headache, nausea or vomiting and dizziness. Warning signs of heat stroke may include an extremely high body temperature, unconsciousness, confusion, hot and dry skin (no sweating), a rapid, strong pulse, and a throbbing headache. If symptoms of heat stroke occur, immediately call for medical assistance. Move the person to a shady area and begin cooling their body with water. Continue reading

ORANGE COUNTY REPORTS FIRST HUMAN WEST NILE VIRUS CASE OF 2015
(Santa Ana) – A 51 year-old resident of the city of Orange tested positive this week for West Nile Virus (WNV) infection, becoming the County’s first human WNV infection in 2015. This is the 19th human case of WNV reported in California this year. The man experienced symptoms during the third week of July and has completely recovered.
In 2014, Orange County reported the highest number of human infections of West Nile virus in the nation with 280, including nine deaths. OCMVCD uses more than 10 years of sampling data collected during routine monitoring and testing of mosquitoes, dead birds, and human infections to determine areas of greater risk throughout the county. Also championing the cause are many local car dealerships, banks, hospitals and medical clinics, colleges, stores, companies, youth groups, places of worship, and others. A comprehensive social media campaign, onsite presentations, radio spots, and information booths at community events will aide in educating and reminding the public.

A man was beaten and stabbed on Sunday night after confronting a group of taggers who were defacing a vacant house near Lincoln Avenue and Stinson Street, in Anaheim, according to the L.A. Times.
He was stabbed once in the lower back near South Stinson Street before another man “saw the incident, retrieved a handgun and shot four to five rounds into the air to stop the assault,” police Lt. Eric Trapp said, according to the O.C. Register. Continue reading

Supervisor Todd Spitzer Announces Plan to Place OC City and Military Flags at the OC Civic Center

This week at the Board of Supervisors meeting, Supervisor Spitzer requested that the County members of the Civic Center Joint Power Authority seek to replace the 50 state flags in the Plaza of the Flags with the flags of Orange County’s 34 cities, the County flag, the State flag, the U.S. flag, and the flags of the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and Coast Guard.
The request was made by Supervisor Spitzer to remove the Confederate Flag from flying in the Civic Center and to help build unity amongst the County and the cities. The Confederate Flag is currently part of the flag of the State of Mississippi. To many, the Confederate Flag represents one of the darkest and most shameful eras in the history of our country.
