Regional Bikeways Roll Forward

Thanks to essential collaboration in the Fourth District, the Coyote Creek Bike Trail extension is making significant progress. The Coyote Creek Bike Trail meanders along the border of Orange and Los Angeles counties.

In its current state, the 9.5 mile trail runs along Coyote Creek from Sante Fe Springs to Long Beach, eventually connecting to the San Gabriel River Trail. Once the gaps are closed along the north end of the trail, this off-street bikeway would connect cities such as La Mirada and La Habra all the way to the coast. Continue reading→

Judge Denies Voice of OC Request for Bustamante Records

A Superior Court judge on Tuesday denied Voice of OC’s request under the California Public Records Act for documents showing what top county officials knew when they allowed former executive Carlos Bustamante to quietly resign in October 2011, months before District Attorney Tony Rackauckas charged Bustamante with a dozen felony sex crimes against female employees.

In turning down the request, Judge David McEachen wrote that his civil court “has no power” to overturn a June 24 protective order issued by a criminal court hearing Bustamante’s case. Continue reading→

Orange County DUI Task Force Arrests 12 DUI Suspects

SANTA ANA, CA – (August 27, 2013) – On Monday, August 26, deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department were successful in clearing a number of DUI warrants in several South Orange County communities. This week at the Azteca Mexican Restaurant in Garden Grove, California Republican Party Chairman Jim Brulte joined county GOP Chairman Scott Baugh and a host of key Republican financiers and elected officials from across Orange County for a “kick off” fundraiser for Nguyen’s state Senate bid.

Summer / Labor Day Holiday “Avoid the 38” DUI Campaign – Monday Update

SANTA ANA, California – (August 19, 2013) – The Summer/Labor Day National Anti-DUI crackdown has resulted in a significant number of DUI arrests from routine traffic enforcement and special “Avoid the 38” Task Force DUI deployments.

During the enforcement period of Friday, August 16, 2013 at 12:01 a.m. through Sunday August 18, 2013 at 11:59 a.m., officers representing 38 county law enforcement agencies have arrested 149 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. No DUI fatalities were reported. In 2012, 153 DUI arrests occurred during the same three (3) day time period. Continue reading→
