Hit and run driver turns himself in after hitting a pedestrian on Saturday

A driver of a vehicle believed to have been involved in a hit and run Saturday evening turned himself in to authorities several hours after a hit-and-run incident took place around 6:45 p.m. on Grand Avenue just north of Warner Avenue, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

That is a busy intersection with a red light camera. There is a Taco Bell on the northwest corner of the intersection. There are also three bus stops on the intersection, located north, south and east of the intersection. Continue reading→

Updated: Rigoberto Gomez dies after crashing on freeway and running off

A 29-year-old man was found dead in a Santa Ana neighborhood Thursday afternoon after apparently crashing his truck into a freeway median, then getting out and running away, the California Highway Patrol said, according to the OC Register.

UPDATE: The dead man has been identified by the Orange County Coroner as Rigoberto Gomez, 29, of Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

CHP spokesman Todd Kovaletz said witnesses saw the man driving recklessly in a 1992 Chevrolet 1500 pickup on southbound I-5 about 3:40 p.m. He lost control and hit a center-median wall before the truck came to rest in the right lane near Seventeenth Street. Continue reading→

Advisory: Second suspect in felony hit and run arrested

On Monday March 3 at 4:10 PM a 14-year-old girl was crossing against the red traffic signal and tried to run between two vehicles at the intersection of Bristol Street at 17th Street. She was hit by two vehicles, and both drivers left the scene. Adan Camacho (32) Santa Ana, the driver of a truck who first struck the victim never stopped to render aid. Officers eventually arrested and booked Camacho for felony hit-and-run, thanks to a Good Samaritan who followed the suspects truck and directed officers to the vehicle. Continue reading→

Updated: The SAPD is investigating a homicide on the 600 block of North Rosita

SAPD officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 600 Block North Rosita on Tuesday night at around 8 pm, according to a press release they issued. A male victim was located in the drive way of a residence deceased from a possible gun shot wound.

The victim was identified by SAPD homicide detectives on Wednesday, Feb. 19, as Michael Paul Stanton, a 31-year-old Santa Ana resident. Continue reading→

Juan Chavero identified as victim hit by a car near Harbor and First

Orange County Coroner’s Office officials on Friday identified Juan Chavero, 21, as the man who was found fatally injured a day earlier by officers responding to a traffic accident in a business center at 160 S. Harbor Blvd., according to the OC Register.

The man was hit around 5:15 p.m. in an industrial center at 160 S. Harbor Boulevard, according to Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna. Chavero was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CBS. Continue reading→

SAPD looking for second suspect in gas station robbery caught on video

A Santa Ana gas station clerk was beaten during a robbery two weeks ago, and police are seeking a second suspect. One suspect was arrested at the scene. Police are hoping surveillance pictures will lead to the capture of the second suspect and a getaway driver, according to KABC.

Marcos Soriano was working at the station’s AM/PM when two men came in about 5:20 a.m. and wanted to buy beer. It is illegal to sell alcohol between 2 and 6 a.m., so Soriano refused. Surveillance footage shows the clerk leading the men outside of the store, and the two suspects try to get back in. Moments later, the pair attacked Soriano, who was struck on the head and kicked in the ribs, according to NBC. Continue reading→

Advisory: Homicide Detectives investigate shooting death

On 2-15-14, at approximately 2055 hours, a victim suffering from gunshot wounds was transported by a friend to a local hospital in the City of Santa Ana. The victim was pronounced deceased a short time later. The victim was 25-years-old and a Santa Ana resident. His name is not being released until family members have been notified. It is unknown where the shooting occurred. I got a tip yesterday from an anonymous source who said that the Santa Ana Police Department is dealing with a harassment scandal that will dwarf what happened when former Santa Ana Councilman Carlos Bustamante got arrested after allegedly harassing women at his workplace at the County of Orange.

According to my source, a female SAPD commander was locked out of the SAPD HQ after numerous complaints about her behavior with other female cops. Continue reading→

At 1018 AM, an 87 year-old male drove to the medical building at 999 North Tustin for an appointment. As he was pulling into a handicapped parking stall, he accidentally hit the accelerator instead of the brake. On Jan. 30, Karen Toshima was one of thousands of people who went to Westwood Village to have an enjoyable evening. Instead, she found death from a bullet fired by a member of a street gang. In her death, she joined the 60% of victims of gang murders who, like her, were innocent bystanders. Every person who was in Westwood Village on Jan. 30 can truthfully say, “But for the grace of God, it could have been me,” because Karen was not killed by a personal enemy. She was killed by our common enemy, a wantonly violent member of a street gang, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Toshima, a 27-year-old graphic designer, was celebrating a recent promotion with a night out in Westwood, according to the Daily Bruin.

That is exactly what Kim Pham was doing when she was stomped to death in Downtown Santa Ana, by a pack of vicious women and a few men too. Pham was waiting to get into a hipster nightclub, The Crosby, which has since announced that they are closing their doors. Continue reading→

SAPD needs help identifying a vehicle used in a drive by shooting

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Detectives request the media and publics assistance in identifying a vehicle involved in a drive by shooting.

On 1/28/14, SAPD Communications received several calls of shots fired in the area of 600 E. Chestnut. Witnesses reported that a black over gray late 90’s or early 2000’s Lexus or possibly an Acura 4 door was shooting at a male adult bicyclist.

The victim in this case was being chased by the suspects for several blocks. The last part of the incident was captured on video surveillance. In the video you will see a male adult on a red bicycle traveling east on Myrtle Street and the black suspect vehicle following behind. The rear male passenger shoots at the male bicyclist and misses. The vehicle fled and was last seen traveling northbound on Halladay Street. Continue reading→

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Homicide Detectives make arrest in the death of Martha Rodezno

On Wednesday January 29, 2014 Santa Ana Police Department Homicide Detectives arrested Jaqwun Laerin Turner (33) of Hawthorne for CVC 20001 (a) (b) 2 Hit and Run with permanent injury or death. Authorities arrested Turner at his residence.

Detectives obtained evidence that showed the victim in the area of Avery and the I-5 getting into a Petroleum Tanker driven by suspect Turner. On 12-8-2013 at approximately 2:43 AM the tanker was observed by a witness to be traveling northbound I-5 at the 22 freeway when a person was ejected from the passenger side of the Tanker. MALE HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER SENTENCED TO 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR POSING AS TEENAGE GIRL ENCOURAGING SEX ACTS AND OBTAINING NUDE PHOTOS OF OVER 100 UNDERAGE BOYS THROUGH FACEBOOK

SANTA ANA – An Anaheim high school teacher was convicted and sentenced today to 10 years in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration for encouraging sex acts and soliciting and possessing nude photos and videos of over 100 underage boys by posing as a teenage girl on Facebook. Zachary Joshua Reeder, 31, Orange, pleaded guilty today to four felony counts of distributing pornography to a minor, two felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, two felony counts of contacting a child with the intent to commit a lewd act, one felony count each of using a minor for sex acts, lewd act upon a child, possession and control of child pornography, and distribution of child pornography.

At the time of the crimes, Reeder was a history teacher at Servite High School, an all-boys college preparatory high school in Anaheim. Reeder previously worked as a history teacher and a walk-on assistant baseball coach for four seasons at Arnold O. Beckman High School in Irvine. Continue reading→
