Commercial Marijuana Businesses in City of Santa Ana Targeted with Justice Department Warning Letters and Asset Forfeiture Lawsuits

LOS ANGELES – In the latest of a series of federal enforcement actions against the commercial marijuana industry in California, federal authorities today moved against 63 illegal marijuana stores in the City of Santa Ana.

In federal court this morning, prosecutors filed three asset forfeiture lawsuits against properties in Santa Ana where a total of seven marijuana stores are currently operating. Authorities also executed federal search warrants at two of the stores involved in the asset forfeiture actions. Additionally, prosecutors sent warning letters to people associated with 56 other stores not involved in the forfeiture actions. The federal actions involve all known marijuana stores in the City of Santa Ana. Continue reading→

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Homicide Detectives investigating shooting death 1000 block of South Austin

Victim ID’ed: Martha Socorro Marin (22) Santa Ana

Officers responded to a residence in the 1000 block of South Austin for a reported shooting. Officers arrived to find a 30 year old woman who was unconscious and suffering from a small puncture wound to the upper chest. A 34 year old male at the scene advised officers, he had accidentally shot the woman in the chest with his BB rifle. Continue reading→

Council Member Martinez’ hysterical stance on CDBG funds is self serving

Santa Ana Councilwoman Michele Martinez had a total fit at this week’s City Council meeting, regarding the CDBG (Community Development Block Grants) funding that the city is applying for.  These federal funds last year totalled $5.7 million.  These funds are supposed to be used “to improve low- and moderate-income neighborhoods and eliminate blight,” according to the O.C. Register.

The irony is that Martinez has always voted for the CDBG funds as they have been presented to the Council – but now she is going off about past funding, including funding for a police helicopter that would have otherwise been grounded. Continue reading→

UPDATE: Today, Santa Ana Family Crimes Detectives arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with an attempt rape occurring on January 20th, 2013. After analyzing DNA evidence from items which fell to the ground during the confrontation between the victim’s daughter and the suspect, detectives learned the identity of the suspect’s acquaintance. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: April is Distracted Driver Awareness Month

As part of April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month campaign, the Santa Ana Police Department will be actively ticketing those texting or operating hand-held cell phones for the month of April. Drivers who break the law and place themselves and others in danger will be cited with no warnings. The current minimum ticket cost is $159, with subsequent tickets costing at least $279. In April 2012, over 57,000 tickets were written statewide for texting and hand-held cell use. There were nearly 450,000 convictions in 2012. Whether it’s a ticket or a crash, as the campaign theme states, “It’s Not Worth It!” Continue reading→

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Santa Ana Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Collision 2900 West MacArthur

On 3/08/13 at approximately 0200 hours, a 25 year old male was driving alone, traveling east on MacArthur Boulevard in his 1997 Toyota Corolla. It appears the Corolla was driving at a high rate of speed during rain and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway in the area of 2900 W. MacArthur. The vehicle went out of control as it traveled up over the south curb and sidewalk to where it struck a large tree with the impact on the driver side door area of the car. Continue reading→

March 6, 2013 — Santa Ana Police Department and Southern California Edison (SCE) is advising customers to be aware of a new telephone scam that is demanding immediate payment for alleged past due electricity bills. Imposters have been calling SCE customers telling them they must make immediate payment on past due bills or have their electric service disconnected. BASED ON LEADS OBTAINED AFTER MEDIA STORIES DETECTIVES RECEIVED A TIP THAT THE SUSPECT MAY BE THOMAS WALKER A LOCAL TRANSIENT. AS DETECTIVES WERE WORKING ON LEADS TO FULLY IDENTIFY AND LOCATE THOMAS WALKER THEY RECEIVED AN ADDITIONAL TIP FROM A PERSON WHO WATCHED MEDIA REPORTS AND SAW THE COMPOSITE AND THE INFORMATION ON THE STOLEN BEACH CRUISER. SHE CONTACTED THE DETECTIVE AND ADVISED HIM THAT A MALE SUBJECT ABANDONED THE BIKE IN HER APARTMENT COMPLEX AS WELL AS CLOTHING THAT HAD BEEN DESCRIBED IN THE MEDIA REPORTS.
