Five arrested for allegedly aiding in the escape from the OC Central Men’s Jail

You might have noticed a lot of police activity in Santa Ana today.  Apparently the OC Sheriff’s Department arrested five people today in connection with the three violent inmates who escaped from the Orange County Men’s Central Jail, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

Sheriff Sandra Hutchens said that the five people who were arrested today helped the escapees in some undetermined fashion. They may have been involved in helping to smuggle the cutting tools used in the escape into the jail. Continue reading→

North Grand Ave. reopened after bomb scare turns out to be a false alarm

The Orange County Sheriff’s Department’s Bomb Squad used a robot to examine the suitcase that was left at 1300 North Grand Ave. today, just north of the 5 Freeway, according to the O.C. Register. The suitcase was suspected to be a bomb as it had wires sticking out of it.

The Bomb Squad’s robot took a photograph and x-ray of the suitcase, at around 10:30 a.m., before returning to three nearby deputies to be examined. Continue reading→

On 1/25/16, officers responded to the scene of a traffic collision involving a bicyclist and a pick-up truck on 17th Street at the intersection with LaBonita Avenue.

At approximately 6:07pm, a bicyclist was riding from south to north on LaBonita Avenue at the intersection with 17th Street. While crossing 17th Street, he was struck by a Toyota T-100 pick-up truck. Continue reading→

CONVICTED FELON SENTENCED TO THREE YEARS IN PRISON FOR CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT PIMPING AND CARRYING LOADED FIREARM IN PUBLIC

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A convicted felon was sentenced Friday to three years in state prison for conspiracy to commit pimping and carrying a loaded firearm in public. Andrew Michael Meteau, 29, Pomona, pleaded guilty Jan. 22, 2016, to one felony count of conspiracy to commit pimping, and one felony count of carrying a loaded firearm in public with a prior conviction and sentencing enhancements for four prior felony convictions for possession of methamphetamine in 2008 in San Bernardino County, possession of a controlled substance in 2010 in Nevada, carrying a loaded firearm in public in 2005 in Los Angeles County and possession of a firearm by a felon in 2012 in San Bernardino County and not remaining free for a period of five years of both prison custody and the commission of his four prior felonies. Advisory: SAPD investigates fatal hit and run

Narrative: On Sunday, January 24th, 2016 at 1806 hours, patrol officers along with the Orange County Fire Authority responded to a report of a pedestrian down in the area of Fairview and Edinger. An unidentified male subject who had been struck by a vehicle was located lying on the roadway in the area of 1200 S. Fairview. The subject succumbed to critical injuries sustained in the collision and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The unknown driver and vehicle had fled the scene.

Based on evidence and the scene, it appears the male pedestrian was walking across Fairview Street west to east in the area of the intersection at Dahl Lane when he was struck by a vehicle driving south on Fairview. Continue reading→

Over 600 crimes were committed in Santa Ana this week including 36 weapons charges

It was another bad week in Santa Ana, from January 18 through today as 622 crimes were committed, according to CrimeMapping, compared to 573 crimes in the previous week.

The crimes committed this week included 36 weapons charges ranging from Assaults with Deadly Weapons to Shootings at Occupied Dwellings. There were 55 weapons charges committed in Santa Ana in the week of January 11.

MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR ATTACKING WOMAN WITH WHOM HE IS ROMANTICALLY INVOLVED WITH MEAT CLEAVER AFTER ARGUMENT IN GARDEN GROVE APARTMENT

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today on charges of attacking a woman with whom he is romantically involved with a meat cleaver after an argument in their Garden Grove apartment. Thang Van Nguyen, 46, Garden Grove, is charged with one felony count of attempted murder, one felony count of aggravated mayhem, and one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury with sentencing enhancement allegations for great bodily injury committed during domestic violence, great bodily injury resulting in brain injury and paralysis, and the personal use of a meat cleaver. If convicted, Nguyen faces a maximum sentence of 13 years to life in state prison. Nguyen is scheduled to be arraigned this afternoon, Jan. 21, 2016, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana.

At the time of the crime, Nguyen and Jane Doe were involved in a romantic relationship and lived with their children in an apartment in Garden Grove. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Officers Arrest Mother For Leaving 4 Year Old Child In Unattended Vehicle At Mall While She Shops

Arrested: Arica Jenee Ayala (27) Anaheim

At approximately 8:30 pm, officers responded to a parking lot located at the Main Place Mall, 2800 block of North Main Street, regarding a child left unattended inside a vehicle. A witness advised the involved vehicle arrived at approximately 7:50 pm.

Officers found a 4 year-old male sitting in a car seat, crying and screaming. The doors to the vehicle had been left unlocked. The child told officers his mother left him alone in the car. Mall security made announcements over their P.A. system and officers checked the registered owner’s address in Anaheim and were unable to locate anyone. Continue reading→

Garden Grove man allegedly attacked his wife with a meat cleaver

Thang Van Nguyen, 46, turned himself in at a Garden Grove fire station this morning, at about 6:45 a.m., and said he had murdered his wife in their apartment, according to the O.C. Register.

When he took officers to his home in the 12700 block of Flower Street, his 44-year-old wife Huong Nguyen was found conscious, but with several stab wounds from a large meat cleaver, officials said, according to CBS News. Continue reading→

Young man injured in gang shooting in Garden Grove

A young man was shot in his upper body early this morning, before 4 a.m.,at the 10600 block of Tibbs Circle, in Garden Grove, in what police are calling a gang-related attack, according to the O.C. Register.

A man was shot by an SAPD police officer on North Parton St. last night

We reported last night about a drive by shooting that wounded a man in his 20s at the 1000 block of North Parton. Our readers indicated that there was a second man injured as well. Today we know the details about that second victim.

It turns out the second man was shot by an SAPD police officer, according to the O.C. Register. The police have not indicated yet if the second shooting was related to the first one. Continue reading→

Another drive-by shooting in Santa Ana reported tonight on N. Parton St.

A man in his early 20s was shot in the upper body tonight at around 7:20 p.m. at the 1000 block of North Parton St., according to the O.C. Register.

Igmar Rodas, a local community activist and photographer, told us that this was a drive-by shooting.  He also reported that two suspects are in custody. Witnesses he spoke to said that there was a second victim that was seen laying on the street.

The SAPD did not report any details. SAPD police officers were only told that people had heard shots in their neighborhood. Continue reading→

Smash and grab robbers hit the Rolex store at South Coast Plaza tonight

The Rolex store at South Coast Plaza was burglarized tonight when at least one suspect smashed a glass case and stole several watches, according to the O.C. Register.

Shoppers reportedly panicked when the incident happened at 8:22 p.m., believing that shots had been fired. However the Costa Mesa Police investigated and determined that no shots were fired. Continue reading→
