Delhi Neighborhood Community Building Initiative builds community connections with Officers

(Santa Ana, CA)- Over 70 Santa Ana residents gathered at the Delhi Center on May 7, 2015 to engage in conversation with Santa Ana Police Officers about crime and safety in the Delhi Neighborhood. Amidst the civil unrest in Baltimore and nationwide protests, the SAPD police officers and local residents took active steps towards building and strengthening relationships.

The event went over background on the Delhi Neighborhood as it is one of the most densely populated residential developments in Santa Ana. The Delhi Center is located in the center of the Delhi Neighborhood, an area with 10,643 in total population and comprised 95.1% Hispanic/Latino. Continue reading→

Santa Ana gang banger shot in the hand but he isn’t talking of course

Apparently a local gang banger tried to block a bullet with his hand! Or perhaps he was not quick enough to dodge the bullets fired at him by an unknown assailant.

SAPD police officers drove to the 100 block of South Broadway Street, in Santa Ana’s Ward 2, which is represented by Council Member Michele Martinez, on Thursday night at around 10:30 p.m., after reports of shots fired, according to the O.C. Register.

The police arrested a man who was seen running east on East Walnut Street. The man was shot in the right hand and the police also found a handgun under a nearby parked car. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint Fri, June 5th, 2015 9:00PM – 3:00AM in the area of 3300 W. 5th Street

The Santa Ana Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Friday, June 5th, 2015 It will begin at 9:00PM and is scheduled to conclude at 3:00AM. It will be conducted in the area of 3300 W. Fifth Street, in the City of Santa Ana.

The primary purpose of a DUI Checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, not to increase arrests. All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. The DMV reports that unlicensed drivers are 4.9 times more likely to cause a fatal crash than a licensed driver. Continue reading→

MAN CHARGED FOR 1986 COLD CASE SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES MURDER OF BUSINESS ASSOCIATE

*Defendant was previously convicted by a jury of murdering a second business associate in Florida in 1987

SANTA ANA – A man was charged today for the 1986 cold case special circumstances murder of a business associate in Orange County. Steven Wyvern White, 65, was charged today with one felony count of murder with special circumstances for a prior first degree murder conviction in Florida in 1987. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole. He is currently awaiting extradition to Orange County from a Florida prison facility. The date, time, and location of his arraignment are to be determined.

In 1986, White, then 29 years old, is accused of befriending 79-year-old Cedric Horn, a semi-retired dentist. White is accused of persuading Horn to enter into business dealings with him. White is accused of gaining access to the victim’s bank accounts and fraudulently transferring funds from the victim’s account into the defendant’s personal account. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Robbery Detectives Request Media and Publics Assistance in Identifying Robbery Suspects

Crime Type: Robbery

Location: 2641 N. Bristol Street (Shell Gas)

Synopsis: On 05/27/2015 at about 11:12 PM, the photographed suspects entered the business (Shell Gas station). Suspect #1 demanded the money from the cash register while showing the clerk a handgun in his waistband. The second suspect enters the store and acts as a lookout, unknown if he was also armed. After the store clerk gave Suspect #1 all the money in the register, both suspects exited the business and were last seen running south on Bristol Street. Continue reading→

Arrested: Deborah Mueller (60) Huntington Beach

Summary: On June 2, 2015, 60 year-old Deborah Mueller was arrested for embezzlement by Santa Ana Police Detectives.

Mueller was employed at Jorgenson Metal Rolling & Forming as the office manager for over 10 years. In January of 2011, Mueller was suspected of embezzling a large amount of money and was terminated. An investigation was launched by the Santa Ana Police Department’s Major Fraud Unit and Mueller moved to Arizona after being terminated. Continue reading→

Santa Ana car thief busted after a brief chase but his passenger got away

A suspected car thief got busted on Sunday morning after an SAPD police officer tried to stop a reportedly stolen gray Acura MDX just before 6:40 a.m., as it traveled southbound on South Fairview Street near West McFadden Avenue, according to the O.C. Register.

Of course the suspect refused to stop so the chase was on. The driver took off on West McFadden Ave., for about two miles, before he turned right on South Harmon Street. Then he stopped in a residential neighborhood at around 600 South Harman, and the cops caught him and arrested him on suspicion of possession of stolen property. Continue reading→

SAPD Police Cruiser crashes in Santa Ana

An SAPD police cruiser driving northbound in the 600 block of South Bristol Street, crashed head-on into another vehicle, in an intersection, while racing to respond to an alleged shooting on Saturday night, at around 6:10 p.m., according to the O.C. Register.

The patrol car had its lights and sirens on at the time of the crash, according to the SAPD. The police officer was turning westbound on West Willits Street when a driver heading southbound on Bristol did not stop at the intersection. Continue reading→

Advisory: Santa Ana Police Department Arrests Suspect For Bank Robbery

Location: Schools 1st Bank (2115 N. Broadway)

Arrested: Justin Thomas Yrrarazaval (20) Santa Ana

On 5-29-15 at 9:00 A.M., an SAPD Patrol Officer observed suspect Yrrarazaval walking in the 1300 block of North Spurgeon Street. The Officer believed Yrrarazaval was the same suspect he observed on surveillance video during a bank robbery at Schools First Bank (2115 N. Broadway,) on 5-28-2015.

Robbery Detectives responded to the officer’s location and transported the suspect to the Police Department where he was questioned about his involvement in the Bank Robbery. Yrrarazaval was booked into Santa Ana Police Jail on the charge of CPC 211 – Bank Robbery. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Investigates Attempted Homicide – Suspect Arrested

On 5-27-2015 at approximately 3:00 A.M., Santa Ana PD received a 911 call reference a Domestic Violence that had escalated into a husband stabbing his wife with a large knife. Officers responded to the residence in the 800 block of West 15th Street where they located the victim who had been stabbed multiple times in the upper torso. Today at approximately 8:04 a.m., the Tustin Police Department received an alarm call at Don’s Cyclery, located at 121 N. Prospect Ave. At the same time as the alarm call, the Tustin Police Department receveived a phone call that provided information of a possible suspect seen leaving the location on a tricycle.

Officers arrived on the scene at Don’s Cyclery and found a glass door was smashed. Within minutes of the original call a Tustin officer located Jose Manuel Elias (D.O.B. 7/8/81) in the area of First St. and Lyon Ave. in the City of Santa Ana. Continue reading→

Santa Ana man arrested after he allegedly stabbed his wife several times

An unidentified man was arrested early Wednesday morning after he allegedly stabbed his wife in the chest and face during an argument at around 3 a.m., in their Santa Ana apartment, in the 800 block of East 15th Street, according to the O.C. Register.

The couple’s four children, who range in age from 2 to 17, were inside the apartment during this attack. Their mother was found by SAPD police officers after they responded to the call. She was injured and bloody as she was stabbed multiple times. Continue reading→

Man injured in a gang-related drive-by shooting

A unidentified man in his early 20s was shot in the right leg and rear end late Monday, before 11 p.m., in the west alley in the 1100 block of Pacific Avenue in what police suspect is a gang-related incident, according to the O.C. Register.

The injured man told the SAPD that another fellow drove up to him in an unfamiliar car and then someone in the car shot at the man four to five times.

SAPD investigators “found bullet casings in the alley near where they found the wounded man and two cars were also found with bullets lodged inside them.” Continue reading→

Garden Grove man arrested in Santa Ana after two carjackings

Phuong Ngoc Nguyen, a 41-year-old resident of Garden Grove, suspected of carjacking one car and trying to make off with a second while a child was in the backseat was arrested Sunday morning, in the area of 15th Street and Brookhurst Street, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.

At about 7 a.m., Phuong Ngoc Nguyen approached a victim at Brookhurst and 15th streets, demanding the person’s vehicle, a red 1995 Toyota Camry, according to My News LA.

The suspect was arrested by the SAPD, after he hid in some bushes after a hit-and-run at Corta Street and Roberts Drive, with a vehicle that matched the carjacking victim’s vehicle, according to CBS. Continue reading→
