MAN CHARGED WITH TRAFFICKING AND ASSAULTING TEENAGE WOMAN BY BURNING HER WITH BLOW TORCH TO FORCE HER TO WORK AS PROSTITUTE

WESTMINSTER – A man has been charged for trafficking an 18-year-old woman and physically assaulting her, including burning her leg with a blow torch, and forcing her to work as a prostitute for his benefit. Richard Jordan Sandoval, 24, is charged with two felony counts of assault with force likely to produce great bodily injury, two felony counts of domestic battery with corporal injury, one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, or deceit, one felony count of human trafficking, one felony count of pandering by promise, threat, or violence to become a prostitute, and one felony count of criminal threats. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 22 years and eight months in state prison. He is being held on $150,000 bail and must prove the money is from a legal and legitimate source before posting bond. He was arraigned Friday and is scheduled for a pre-trial on July 20, 2015, at 8:30 a.m. in Department W-12, West Justice Center, Westminster. Continue reading→

TWO MEN CHARGED WITH TRAFFICKING, PIMPING, AND PANDERING TEENAGE WOMAN IN SANTA ANA

SANTA ANA – Two men have been charged with trafficking, pimping, and pandering a teenage woman in Santa Ana. Caine Alexander Herrera, 18, and Emari Litrell Johnson, 18, both of Fresno, are each charged with one felony count of human trafficking, one felony count of pimping, and one felony count of pandering. If convicted, they each face a maximum sentence of 20 years in state prison. Both defendants are being held on $250,000 and must prove the money is from a legal and legitimate source before posting bond. TWO MEN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR TRAFFICKING, PIMPING, AND PANDERING FOUR WOMEN AND ONE MINOR GIRL FROM TEXAS TO ORANGE COUNTY

*Defendants’ preliminary hearing was heard last week and additional charges were filed based on new information

SANTA ANA – Two men are scheduled to be arraigned today on charges for trafficking, pimping, and pandering five women and one minor girl from Texas to Orange County. Lynn Anthony Bishop, 45, Houston, Texas, and Henry Ray Perry, 33, Burbank, were previously charged with one felony count each of human trafficking, pandering by procuring, human trafficking of a minor, pimping a minor, pandering with a minor over 16 years old by procuring, four felony counts of pimping, and three felony counts of pandering.

The defendants have been additionally charged with one felony count of pimping and two felony counts of pandering. Bishop faces a sentencing enhancement for a prior strike conviction for committing a robbery in 2000 in Harris County, Texas. Perry faces a sentencing enhancement for a prior federal prison conviction for transporting for prostitution in 2012 in Texas and serving a separate prison term of one year and more and not remaining free for a period of five years. If convicted, Bishop faces a maximum sentence of 56 years in state prison and Perry faces a maximum sentence of 29 years in state prison. They are each being held on $1 million bail and must prove the funds are from a legal and legitimate source before posting bond. They are scheduled to be arraigned today in Department C-5, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced on Friday, May 22, 2015, to four years in state prison for pimping and pandering a female relative to an undercover officer. An Ngoc Dai Dang, 33, Garden Grove, was found guilty by a jury on March 26, 2015, of one felony count of pimping and one felony count of pandering.

SANTA ANA – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for pimping and pandering a woman and attempting to traffic a 17-year-old girl on Facebook. Treyvon Lamar Daniels, 23, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count each of human trafficking of a minor, attempted pandering with a minor over 16 years old by procuring, attempted pimping of a minor, pandering, pimping, and prior prison convictions for committing robbery in Los Angeles County in 2009, and committing second degree burglary and second degree robbery in Los Angeles County in 2011. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 43 years to life in state prison. He is being held on $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. Orange County prosecutors are taking the tactic to another level: Asking every police agency in the county to hand over photographs of offenders so that they can be posted on the district attorney’s website under the heading “Sex Purchasers,” according to the L.A. Times.

Emma Andersson, staff attorney with the ACLU’s Criminal Law Reform Project, said that the aim of the criminal justice system should be rehabilitation, rather than “the banishment and isolation of individuals from a community.” Continue reading→

EIGHT MEN CONVICTED OF LOITERING WITH THE INTENT TO COMMIT PROSTITUTION OR ENGAGING/AGREEING TO ENGAGE IN PROSTITUTION

SANTA ANA – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) convicted eight men in October 2014 of loitering with the intent to commit prostitution or engaging/agreeing to engage in prostitution. The defendants in these cases approached a woman, whom they believed to be a prostitute, loitering in areas known for prostitution and human trafficking in Orange County. Some defendants agreed to engage in commercial sex with a woman and were subsequently arrested by law enforcement.

The Santa Ana Police Department, Brea Police Department, Irvine Police Department, Garden Grove Police Department, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department (OCSD) investigated these cases. Deputy District Attorney Kelly Manley of the HEAT Unit prosecuted these cases. Continue reading→

NAIL SALON MANAGER SENTENCED TO TWO YEARS AND TWO MONTHS IN PRISON FOR ATTEMPTED PIMPING OF EMPLOYEE

SANA ANA – A nail salon manager was convicted and sentenced today to two years and two months in state prison for the attempted pimping of an employee. Cam Da Le, 48, Garden Grove, pleaded guilty to two felony counts of attempted pimping.

Circumstances of the Case

On April 30, 2014, Le instructed 25-year-old Jane Doe to perform commercial sex acts on a customer of a nail salon they both worked at. Le collected all of the money the victim earned while performing sex acts and only paid the victim the tips she collected.

The Orange Police Department (OPD) conducted an investigation as to whether the nail salon was acting as a brothel. Le derived support from the earning and proceeds of the prostitution of Jane Doe knowing she was working as a prostitute. The defendant caused, induced, persuaded, and encouraged Jane Doe to prostitute and to agree to engage in commercial sex acts with an OPD undercover officer. Continue reading→
