Former SAUSD teacher sentenced to 190 years in prison after sexually assaulting two Filipino girls
Robert Ruben Ornelas, a former SAUSD school teacher was sentenced Monday to 190 years in federal prison for sexually assaulting two girls during trips to the Philippines, according to the O.C. Register.
Fortunately U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney dropped the hammer on Ornelas, giving him the maximum punishment available. Continue reading

OC Streetcar Among Top 10 State Infrastructure Projects
Gov. Brown recommends expedited review to the federal government for the modern electric streetcar to run through Santa Ana and Garden Grove
ORANGE – Gov. Jerry Brown has included the OC Streetcar project on a list of 10 high-priority infrastructure projects that the federal government should consider for expedited permitting, he announced during a press conference today.
The modern electric streetcar, which will connect commuters to employment centers, schools and major retail destinations in Santa Ana and Garden Grove, was included in a letter from the state to the federal Council on Environmental Quality. In it, the governor urges that the OC Streetcar and nine other projects from across the state be designated as a high priority for California. Continue reading

Synopsis: On 02/16/2017, the above suspects attempted to take items from Nordstrom without paying. The store’s loss prevention officer approached Suspect #1 and a struggle broke out. Suspect #2 saw the struggle between the loss prevention officer and his accomplice and he attempted to intervene. Suspect #2 pulled a knife out of his pocket and attempted to stab the loss prevention officer. The stolen items were recovered before both suspects fled in a maroon 2000-2005 Ford Mustang. Pres. Trump cancels Santa Ana’s ICE jail contract, costing the City $340K a month
There is a saying that the Santa Ana City Council should have kept in mind when they decided to antagonize President Donald Trump – mess with the bull, you get the horns. And that is exactly what just happened today as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced that they will be terminating their Santa Ana jail contract in 90 days, according to a City of Santa Ana press release.
The Santa Ana City Council had announced last year their plan to terminate the ICE contract by 2020. And this year they voted to become a Sanctuary City – despite warnings that they would lose federal funding. Now that has happened and it is a total disaster. Continue reading

On Wednesday evening, 02-22-17, the Santa Ana Police Department’s Vice and Narcotic Unit conducted an enforcement program targeting the prostitution related activity along the Harbor Blvd. corridor.

COSTA MESA, Calif. – The Costa Mesa Police Department (CMPD) has identified the suspect in the 1997 cold case rape-murder of 26-year-old Sunny Adrienne Sudweeks. The identity of the suspect has been unknown until recently and after extensive follow-up investigation and exhausting all avenues to capture the suspect, CMPD hopes to bring the suspect to justice by making his identity known. Felipe Vianney Hernandez Tellez, 43, has been identified as the homicide suspect who raped and murdered Sudweeks in 1997. Continue reading

The Santa Ana Police Department will be conducting a DUI / Drivers License checkpoint on Friday, February 24, 2017. It will begin at 9:30PM and is scheduled to conclude at 2:30AM. It will be conducted in the area of 500 W. Warner Avenue, in the City of Santa Ana.
The primary purpose of a DUI Checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, not to increase arrests. All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI / Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. The DMV reports that unlicensed drivers are 4.9 times more likely to cause a fatal crash than a licensed driver. Continue reading
Santa Ana man convicted of a felony hit and run that killed a young man

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A driver under the influence of narcotics was convicted and sentenced to 15 years in state prison yesterday for hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian sitting on a sidewalk. Ramon Horta, 56, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty to one felony count of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence while intoxicated with a sentencing enhancement for fleeing the scene of the crime. The defendant was also ordered to pay restitution and his driver’s license was suspended for three years.
At approximately 1:10 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2015, Horta drove a van while under the influence of narcotics, traveling at approximately 30 mph while approaching the intersection of McFadden Avenue and Cedar Street in Santa Ana. The defendant slowly veered the van to his right and drove over a curb onto the sidewalk. The defendant hit and ran over 24-year-old Marcello Bisarello, who was sitting on the sidewalk. There has been a lot of recent discussion on building more Affordable Housing in the city of Santa Ana, but we also need to look at the quality and standard of housing currently being provided in our city. An article from last year, described the housing conditions in the Lacy Neighborhood:

Police officers lined up at the OC Coroner’s office in Santa Ana to mourn the murder of a fellow officer
There was a commotion in Santa Ana today as the body of Keith Boyer, a 25-year veteran of the Whittier Police Department, arrived at the O.C. Coroner’s office, located at 1071 W. Santa Ana Blvd. Our readers reported that police from various agencies turned out to honor Boyer as a police helicopter flew overhead.
Earlier this morning dozens of police officers from different agencies formed two lines to honor Boyer, as his body was wheeled out between them and placed into the Orange County Coroner’s white Chrysler van at the UCI Medical Center in Orange, according to the O.C. Register. Continue reading

The family of a young man killed in Santa Ana last week needs help to pay for his funeral
The family of Jamie De Castilla Campos, an 18-year old alleged Santa Ana gang member who was shot and killed in a homicide incident that occurred at around 10:40 p.m. last Sunday in an alley in the 600 block of East Pine Street, is trying to raise the money needed to pay for his funeral.
The SAPD suspects that Campos was killed during a botched drug deal. Continue reading
