Santa Ana man to spend 15 months in prison after pointing a laser at a police helicopter

Mario Deleon Lopez, a 35-year-old Santa Ana man, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison on Monday for shining a laser pointer at an Orange County Sheriff’s Department helicopter, according to the O.C. Register.

Lopez pleaded guilty in March to aiming the laser pointer at deputies flying over a traffic accident in Santa Ana on Nov. 14. After the helicopter’s cockpit had been targeted by the green laser several times, the flight crew directed officers on the ground to Lopez’ location, in a Santa Ana backyard. EMPLOYEE SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS IN JAIL FOR CASHING DISABILITY CHECKS UNDER FALSE PRETENSE OF BEING UNABLE TO WORK

SANTA ANA, Calif. – An employee for a building remodeling company was sentenced today to six months in county jail for cashing in disability checks under the false pretense of being unable to work. Angel Monzon, 53, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty on Feb. 18, 2015, to one felony count of insurance fraud and two felony counts of making fraudulent statements. He was sentenced to 180 days in Orange County jail and three years of probation. Monzon paid over $25,000 in restitution.

On April 19, 2010, Monzon worked as a granite installer for Fermol Inc. in Huntington Beach. While working, Monzon lost his balance and fell while carrying a large piece of granite, which broke and landed on the defendant’s right thigh and knee. Anaheim is on to FootGolf, why is Santa Ana asleep at the wheel?

Anaheim added the new sport of FootGolf to their Mtz, at the Dad Miller Golf Course in May, and it has since then generated $7,000 from fees. Officials expect revenues to increase to $25,000 next year, according to the O.C. Register.

What exactly is footgolf? FootGolf is a combination of the popular sports of soccer and golf. The game is played with a regulation #5 soccer ball at a golf course facility on shortened holes with 21-inch diameter cups. The rules largely correspond to the rules of golf.

Shootings in Santa Ana totaled 42 this year in June versus a total of 9 in 2013

The Santa Ana City Council is lying about how crime is going down, according to statistics we recently obtained courtesy of the SAPD. Click here to see for yourself. But the biggest problem in our city is the ongoing onslaught of gang-related shootings. Shootings have increased in our city from 9 in 2013 to 42 this year – as of June, 2016, according to the data we received.

Violent crime has skyrocketed in Santa Ana. There were 26 shootings in our city last year. Consider these additional  miserable statistics:

  • In 2013 there were 631 violent crimes in Santa Ana
  • In 2014 violent crimes had increased in our city to 755
  • That trend continued in 2015 with 923 crimes
  • And here we are in August of 2016 and already we have had 1,014 violent crimes (as of July)

A woman was caught in a gang crossfire on S. Standard this morning

On Sunday, August 21st, shortly after midnight a female driving in the area of 1100 South Standard was caught in the cross fire of a gang gun battle shooting.

As the gun battle occurred back and forth across a major street, the passing vehicle was struck. No one in the vehicle was injured and other parked vehicles were struck. Continue reading→

PROTEST, STILL MORE IMPORTANT THAN PEACE, THOUGH GROUPS PARTICIPATED FULLY IN EVERY STEP OF THE PLANNING ! EL CENTRO AND OTHER GROUPS FAIL TO BRING A SOCIAL JUSTICE LENS TO SANTA ANA’S ARTS MASTER PLAN

Groups from El Centro Cultural de Mexico and Santa Ana’s Community Artists have failed, by their own admission in a recent issued statement, to bring a social justice lens to Santa Ana’s first Arts and Culture Master Plan.

Despite having seats on the arts and culture master planning committee table and being represented as stakeholders in planning focus groups where they influenced the plan in meetings, group members have claimed — after the plan was passed on Tuesday August 16th — that the plan has “no social justice lens” as quoted in a recent OC Weekly article Santa Ana City Council Approves 10-Year Arts and Culture Master Plan. Who is your choice for Mayor of Santa Ana?

Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido has won his seat eleven times. The last few years he has faced a string of challengers who at least on paper looked somewhat legitimate – but he beat them all, including Council Members Michele Martinez, David Benavides and Roman Reyna as well as criminal defense attorney Alfredo Amezcua.

Now Pulido, who his detractors at times refer to as “Papi” (Spanish for father) is facing perhaps his most interesting challenger yet – local teacher Benjamin Vazquez, who apparently likes to be referred to as “Don” (a Spanish honorific that is usually reserved for royalty, select nobles, and church hierarchs, it is also often used as a mark of esteem for a person of personal, social or official distinction, such as a community leader of long standing, a person of significant wealth, or a noble, according to Wikipedia). A Santa Ana City Council Member called 911 today to report an assault and robbery in front of his office

At about 11 o’clock this morning a Santa Ana City Council Member called 911 to report witnessing a strong arm robbery in front of their office, near 1600 E. 4th Street, according to the SAPD. (Note that Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Vince Sarmiento’s office is located at 1617 E. 4th St., according to the California State Bar).

The City Council Member witnessed the victim being tackled to the ground and the suspect then took his bicycle. Continue reading→

A UCI student was assaulted and robbed by a homeless man at the Santa Ana Civic Center

Zeke Hernandez is lying to the voters by pretending to be an Adult Education Director

Zeke Hernandez, a candidate for Area 1 of the Rancho Santiago Community College District, is trying to pull a fast one, using the ballot title of “Adult Education Director.” That is a complete falsehood!

Hernandez admitted in a letter he wrote to the Rancho Santiago Community College District’s Chancellor, just last year, to being retired. That letter was part of Hernandez’ application to the Measure Q Bond Oversight Committee.

Furthermore  the application Hernandez completed to serve on the RSCCD Measure Q Bond committee states an applicant cannot be a district vendor. However during interviews this Monday with the current Rancho Santiago Community College District Trustees, it emerged that Hernandez is the chief executive of a district contractor, according to the Voice of OC. SAUSD School Board candidate Mark McLoughlin is willfully lying to the voters by alleging in his ballot title that he is an “Educator.” That is simply not true. And he has been called on this lie by a resident of Santa Ana who filed a challenge to McLoughlin’s ballot title today at the Orange County Voter Registrar’s office.

Person of Interest in Fatal Motorcycle Accident Located

Santa Ana, Ca. (August 18, 2016) – On Wednesday, August 17, 2016, Orange County Sheriff’s Department Traffic Bureau investigators arrested Damon Ellery Block, 41, following an investigation of a fatal traffic collision that occurred on Santiago Canyon Road in Modjeska Canyon.

On August 1, 2016, a fatal vehicle vs. motorcycle accident occurred on Santiago Canyon Road in Modjeska Canyon.  The driver of the motorcycle died, and the female passenger on the motorcycle was severely injured.  The driver of the vehicle (Honda) fled the scene and was not located after an extensive search of the area.
