A worker found the body of a man floating in the lake at Centennial Regional Park on Wednesday morning at around 9:45 a.m., in Santa Ana, police said, according to the O.C. Register. The park is located at 3000 W. Edinger Ave.
The SAPD’s homicide detectives and the O.C. Coroner indicated that the body did not show any obvious signs of trauma. Continue reading

The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) elected Santa Ana Councilmember Michele Martinez as its new President following the 32nd NALEO Annual Conference which took place this past weekend in Las Vegas. NALEO is the non-partisan leadership organization of the nation’s more than 6,000 Latino elected and appointed officials.

On Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at approximately 3:30 AM, a security guard working at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital observed a suspect and vehicle answering the description of Kwame Carpenter, wanted in the city of Anaheim in connection with the deaths of two people.
The security guard alerted a Santa Ana police officer, who was at the hospital on an unrelated matter.
The Santa Ana officer, in conjunction with Fountain Valley officers, went to the location in the southeast portion of the hospital campus and contacted Carpenter, who was inside his parked 2001 Lincoln Town Car. When officers attempted to take Carpenter into custody, he refused to surrender and drove his car into a Santa Ana police car, damaging it. Carpenter then drove into an unrelated parked vehicle in an attempt to escape; that vehicle suffered significant damage as well. At that point a Fountain Valley officer fired two rounds at Carpenter as he fled the scene in his car. No one was injured as a result of the shooting. Continue reading

DRUNKEN DRIVER CONVICTED OF KILLING WOMAN BY THROWING HER FROM MOTORCYCLE IN CRASH
SANTA ANA – A drunken driver was convicted today of killing a woman by crashing into her motorcycle after making an unsafe turn into an intersection. Steven Todd Newcomer, 47, Santa Ana, pleaded guilty to the court to one felony count each of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated without gross negligence and hit and run causing death and a sentencing enhancement for fleeing the scene of a vehicular manslaughter. Pursuant to the court’s offer, he faces a maximum sentence of six years and four months in state prison at his sentencing Sept. 4, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-5, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
At approximately 8:40 p.m. on April 12, 2012, 32-year-old Kimberly Krause was riding her motorcycle eastbound on Chapman Avenue approaching the intersection at Pioneer Lane in Garden Grove. Clerk-Recorder to Offer Extended Summer Hours on Wednesdays
Beginning Wednesday, July 1 through Wednesday, September 30, 2015, Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen will be keeping his offices open for an additional hour every Wednesday. The extended Wednesday hours will be offered at all locations with the exception of the department’s office inside the County Community Service Center in Westminster.
The department will extend its closing hours every Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm. This will give busy individuals and families an opportunity during the summer to obtain important services such as passports, marriage ceremonies and licenses, birth, death and marriage certificates, fictitious business names and notary registrations. The Orange County Archives will also be open to the public during these extended hours. Please note that real property recording will not be available during the extended Wednesday hours. There was a drive by shooting in Santa Ana yesterday, at Birch and Chestnut, that went unreported by local media.
A resident said that she heard about 7 shots fired. Bullet casings and evidence markers were on the ground. Reportedly a few buildings in front were also hit by bullets, according to local photographer and community activist Igmar Rodas’s Facebook page. Continue reading

SANTA ANA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT PROVIDES FREE LUNCHES THROUGH SUMMER MEAL PROGRAM
SANTA ANA, CA — June 19, 2015 – The Santa Ana Unified School District (SAUSD) will be participating in a free summer lunch program at 51 school sites and 8 Parks and Recreation Centers across the district from June 22 to August 26.
The federally-funded program operates Monday through Friday for breakfast (except Parks and Recreation Centers) and lunch. The program is open to all youths under the age of 18, no income requirement or registration is necessary, and all participants must eat their lunch at the site. Continue reading
Two thugs attacked a 59-year-old man on Thursday night, at around 10:45 p.m., robbing him of his satchel, at the 3700 block of South Greenville Street, in Santa Ana, according to the O.C. Register.
The man was rushed by two males who were wearing dark clothing, according to the SAPD.
The victim was fortunate to escape from the suspects however he later realized that his satchel was gone. Continue reading

Another day another ridiculous shooting in Santa Ana. This time two men with no gang connections were badly wounded as they were shot while they worked on a car in their driveway at the 1300 block of South Rita Way, in Santa Ana, at around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday evening, according to the O.C. Register.
One victim, identified him as 21-year-old Juan Seneseros, was shot in the back. The other victim, a 26-year-old man was shot in the upper and lower torso and was in serious condition. Continue reading
Violence has been growing in Santa Ana all year long but today we hit a new low as a man attacked another man with a hammer after they had a disagreement on Thursday evening about recyclables, according to the O.C. Register.

(June 17, 2015) – More than 25% of the students graduating from the Santa Ana Unified School District will receive the Seal of Biliteracy, an award that certifies they have demonstrated fluency in two or more languages. This is particularly valuable in a competitive job market as employers seek applicants who can communicate in more than one language.

A 9-year-old girl named Genesis Ramos, stopped a would-be robber from taking her mom’s wallet on Monday morning, while she and her 13-year-old sister Ingrid were sitting in their car at a 7-Eleven parking lot on Grand Ave. and East Warner, according to the O.C. Register.
A man pulled up next to the girls in the parking lot and then opened an unlocked door and grabbed a wallet that had been left on the seat by their mother, who was inside the store using an ATM so she could buy donuts for the girls before heading to school.
Genesis, a fourth-grader, jumped out of the car and struggled with the man, who all the while kept trying to close his driver’s side car door. The man insisted he didn’t take anything before finally relenting and letting go of the wallet. Continue reading
