Peak flu season has not yet arrived and it is not too late to vaccinate. Flu vaccine is recommended for everyone six months of age and older, and is especially important for infants, young children, pregnant women, adults over 50, and for those with chronic medical conditions. I stopped by the VIP Grand Opening celebration of Johnny Rockets at the MainPlace Mall this afternoon. The private event included an official ribbon cutting, samples of their signature, mouthwatering hamburgers and hand-spun shakes, a live “ketchup” artist in action, gift bags, interview and a chance to meet Chris Carver, Johnny Rockets Senior VP Operations and Cozette Phifer-Koerber, VP Brand Management and Communications, who came up from the corporate office in Aliso Viejo.
This location is owned by Mike Hashim and his son Karim, who were also at the event. Mike has over 25 years in the restaurant business and he said he opened this franchise, his first Johnny Rockets location, in Santa Ana after searching all over Orange County for a good mall location. This restaurant is located near JCPenney, right by Genki Sushi and several other eateries that have clustered near this northern entrance to the Mall. Continue reading
Police are investigating a reported attack in a mall parking structure on Wednesday night in which a woman told authorities she was robbed and sexually assaulted.
Officers responded about 5:30 p.m. to reports of a robbery at the Westfield MainPlace mall, Santa Ana. A woman told the officers that as she was getting into her car a man pushed her into the vehicle, brandished a weapon and sexually assaulted her. The victim told officers that she was able to escape and that as she ran for help the suspect stole some of her property and fled. Continue reading

29 MEN CONVICTED OF LOITERING, SOLICITING, OR AGREEING TO ENGAGE IN PROSTITUTION IN NOVEMBER
SANTA ANA – The Orange County District Attorney’s Office (OCDA) convicted 29 men of loitering, soliciting, or agreeing to engage in prostitution in November 2013. The defendants in these cases approached a woman, whom they believed to be a prostitute, in areas known for prostitution in Orange County. They agreed to engage in commercial sex, loitered with intent to commit prostitution, or solicited another to engage in prostitution with a woman or an undercover officer and were subsequently arrested by law enforcement.
Garden Grove Police Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, and Santa Ana Police Department investigated these cases. Deputy District Attorney Michael Bardeen of the HEAT Unit prosecuted these cases. Continue reading

On 12-8-2013 at 243am CHP received a 911 call from a driver northbound I-5 at the 22 freeway “gore point” of a possible body. CHP arrived, located the deceased identified as Martha Rodezo (51) Los Angeles. CHP started their investigation, Coroner was then called to the scene and preliminary review of the injuries believed that her death was not conducive to a high speed vehicle/Ped traffic collision; Coroner requested a joint investigation between CHP & Santa Ana PD Homicide Detectives. Newsong Church of Irvine and Santa Ana’s First Baptist Church are still in escrow, as I understand it, but already there are plans for Newsong Santa Ana to join the congregation at First Baptist as of the service on Dec. 19, and the entire Irvine Newsong congregation will be coming to Santa Ana for a joint service on January 12, 2014.
First Baptist is a historic congregation in that this was the first Protestant church in Santa Ana, originally operating on land donated by the founder of this city, William Spurgeon. Over the years the congregation dwindled as folks moved away and began to pass away. Pastor Andy Quient reached out to Newsong’s Pastor Dave Gibbons when Newsong’s attempt to purchase the Santora Building, in Downtown Santa Ana, was rebuffed by the artists in DTSA. Continue reading

MAN CONVICTED OF PIMPING AND PANDERING WOMAN
FULLERTON – A man was convicted yesterday of pimping and pandering a woman in Santa Ana. Damion Henri Soul, 39, Pomona, was convicted by a jury yesterday, Dec. 4, 2013, of one felony count of pimping and one felony count of pandering.
The defendant faces sentencing enhancements for two prior strike convictions from 1993 in Los Angeles County for armed robbery, assault with a firearm, and prior prison felony convictions in 1998 for forgery, and possession of a controlled substance in 2003 and 2006. He faces a maximum sentence of 16 years in state prison on Dec. 16, 2013, at 8:30 a.m. in Department N-6, North Justice Center, Fullerton. Continue reading
Mother’s Market in Santa Ana and the American Diabetes Association are hosting a Free Diabetes Seminar on Tuesday, December 10, 2013, from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm.
An American Diabetes Association survey says 40% of high-risk individuals thought they were not at risk of developing diabetes or prediabetes, while 30% of those with modifiable risk factors believed they had an increased risk of the condition. Health providers said 25% of at-risk patients were very well-informed about their higher diabetes and heart disease risk.
