Tinajero’s calendar shows he was only active on ten days in June

We have been looking this week at the publicly posted official calendars of our City Council Members, for the month of June, 2013.  So far we have determined that Council Members David Benavides and Angie Amezcua are barely present in their own Wards, while Council Member Michele Martinez is staying pretty active in her own Ward.  Now we turn to the calendar of Mayor Pro Tem Sal Tinajero, who represents Ward 6.

  • Tinajero met on June 3 with Beatriz Fernandez, of the Delhi Center, which is located in Ward 1.
  • He took a call from Jose Nieto on June 4.  Nieto runs an adult baseball league that is for-profit.  Tinajero made a decision recently to essentially oust Nieto’s league after an upstart league run by a guy who works at the SAUSD horned in on the action.  Nieto says the new league is mostly full of men from Long Beach.  But he never sent me any proof of that. Clerk Services Made Easier for Busy Workers and Families

Special weekend hours for the Orange County Clerk-Recorder Department will again be available on Saturday Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Old County Courthouse in Santa Ana and the department’s branch offices in Laguna Hills and Fullerton.

The August date will be the third monthly Saturday opening of all offices by Clerk-Recorder Hugh Nguyen. Department employees issued a record 171 marriage licenses on July 27 and performed 107 civil wedding ceremonies—compared to 144 licenses and just 53 ceremonies on Saturday, June 22. Additional Saturday hours are being planned once a month through the end of the year—check the website for exact dates and times. Continue reading→

We have been scrutinizing the public calendars of the Santa Ana City Council Members this week.  We already looked at Councilman David Benavides’ calendar, and that of Councilwoman Angie Amezcua.  Now we will have a look at Ward 2 Councilwoman Michele Martinez’ calendar:

  • Martinez organized a City Health & Fitness Fair on June 1, at Rosita park, located on the border of Wards 3 and 5.  On the same day Martinez appeared at the Grand Opening of the Latino Health Access Park/Community Center, which is located near 4th and Main St.  That center is indeed located in Ward 2. THIRTEEN MEN CONVICTED AND SENTENCED FOR SOLICITING SEX FROM UNDERCOVER OFFICER IN HIGH HUMAN TRAFFICKING AREA IN SANTA ANA

SANTA ANA – Thirteen men, who were arrested in an undercover sting operation, pleaded guilty and were sentenced yesterday for soliciting sex or sex acts from an undercover police officer, whom they believed to be a prostitute in an area known for human trafficking. David Arellano, 36; Adan Castillo, 29; Ricardo Diaz, 41; Daniel Lopez, 29; German Lopez, 41; Alberto Napoles, 25; Jose Navarro, 56; Michael Rodriguez, 33; Serafin Romero, 23; Juan Ruiz, 41; Gregorio Sosa, 28; and Fidel Urquiza, 44, pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of soliciting another to engage in prostitution. Arellano, Castillo, Lopez, Romero, and Sosa also pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor count of driving without a license. Each of the defendants were sentenced to three years of informal probation, 10 days in jail with the possibility of CalTrans in lieu of jail, and must submit DNA as well as AIDS testing and education. Shooting at Santa Ana McDonalds

A suspect was killed by Santa Ana police after a short foot pursuit Tuesday afternoon, according to CBS News.

Authorities responded to a call of a disturbance in a parking lot near McDonald’s at Harbor Boulevard and McFadden Avenue, at the Harbor Place Shopping Center, at about 3 p.m. An officer approached the suspect, which led to a short foot pursuit, according to KABC News. Continue reading→

We reviewed Santa Ana Councilman David Benavides’ official city calendar, for the month of June, 2013, yesterday.  Today we are taking a look at Council Woman Angelica “Angie” Amezcua’s city calendar – and boy is it empty.  Amezcua represents Ward 3 on the City Council.

While Benavides has spent 90% of his time outside of his Ward, Amezcua has done almost nothing in her own Ward.

Daily Santa Ana Crime Report – 29 new crimes on Monday, July 29

It would appear that Santa Ana Councilman P. David Benavides has forgotten which Ward he was elected to serve.  He is supposed to be representing Ward 4 – but let’s take a look at his official June calendar and see what he was really up to last month:

  • On June 1, he did hold his regular community office hours – but then he went to theLatino Health Access “Green Heart Families Park & Community Center” Grand Opening – according to the O.C. Register that park is on 4th St., in Downtown Santa Ana – that happens to be located in Ward 2 – which is represented by Council Member Michele Martinez. Continue reading→

There were 27 new crimes committed on Sunday, July 28, 2013, according to our friends at CrimeMapping.  These crimes included four DUIs and four Disorderly Conducts/Drunk.  Remember that our City Council recently passed an ordinance making it easier to open more bars in our downtown area!

Updated: First Baptist of Santa Ana votes to sell to Newsong Church

Updated: It is a done deal.  The members of First Baptist of Santa Ana voted today 42-17 to sell their church to Newsong Church.  The Board of Directors of First Baptist will now work out the details with Newsong’s Board of Directors.  The deal will total $4 million dollars with $100,000 to be paid up front and the balance to be in the form of a Promissory Note.

According to FBCSA Director Sandy Nalle, First Baptist had perhaps six months to go before becoming insolvent.  This deal will ensure that First Baptist will remain a church. Continue reading→
