Grand Central Art Center is proud to announce the arrival of Artist in Residence, Adriana Salazar from Bogota, Columbia. Adriana will be in residence for the next two months as she develops two major site-specific installation – one in our main gallery and one that will take place at the Orange County Museum of Art. Both projects are part of the upcoming 2013 California-Pacific Triennial, being curated by Dan Cameron of OCMA. GCAC is proud to be a collaborate partner on this inaugural Triennial – part of our continued efforts to build community relationships and partnerships for mutually beneficial outcomes. ORANGE COUNTY – Over 180 law enforcement officers from 19 agencies netted 29 juveniles in violation of city curfew laws last night in the 5th annual curfew sweeps by the Orange County Gang Reduction and Intervention Partnership (OC GRIP). OC GRIP aims to prevent juveniles from being victims of or participants in gang crimes by identifying at-risk youth, increasing school attendance, and decreasing gang activity. Continue reading
Why Rocco’s misguided recall campaign against Mayor Pulido will fail
We reported back on March 21, that Steve Rocco, the perennial candidate who appears to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic, had filed paperwork with the Santa Ana City Clerk to begin a petition to recall Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido.
Now the Orange County Register has reported that Rocco’s paperwork has been approved, so he can start collecting signatures in order to try to put his Pulido recall on the ballot. Continue reading

Many weeks have passed since Jason “Hoss” Hallstrom was shot dead by the SAPD, after he and his friend Travis Mock pulled into the parking lot at the Target on Grand and 17th, in Santa Ana. We are still waiting for the report from the Orange County District Attorney, which has to investigate all police shootings in Orange County. But some of the pieces of this sordid puzzle have been put together by Hallstrom’s friend, Tiffany Nunley. Here is her story:
Travis Mock appeared in West Court, the morning of the shooting, for the case he was currently out on bail for. He never told this to anyone previously. This appears to debunk the SAPD’s story about a car chase due to a stolen car. Continue reading

Good food news to report – Santa Ana’s Green Parrot Villa is opening for lunch and dinner after several years of being used strictly as a banquet facility. They are having a little pre-opening preview party today, May 5, from 3 pm to 5 pm, with free samples of their delicious food.
The Green Parrot Villa is located at 2035 N. Main St., across from the Bowers Museum. There is a large free public parking lot just north of them, on the east side of Main St., just south of the 5 Freeway. Woman convicted for killing a man while pretending to sell fruit

SANTA ANA – A woman was convicted yesterday of the robbery and murder of a Santa Ana man with her brother by gaining entry into his home by pretending to be fruit salesmen. Gladys Romero, 35, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury May 2, 2013, of one felony count of special circumstances murder during the commission of robbery and burglary with an additional sentencing enhancement for the personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury and death.
