Each May 5th (Cinco de Mayo), the City of Santa Ana experiences a high volume of unsanctioned cruising activity. This unsanctioned activity produces public safety concerns, numerous calls for service and grid-lock. In an effort to provide a safe environment and minimize the impact on our local neighborhoods, the Santa Ana Police Department will be deploying extra police personnel to deal with the influx of cruiser activity. SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 61 years to life in state prison for sexually abusing a female relative for nine years and impregnating her at the age of 11. Mariano Antonio Castro, 58, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury Feb. 13, 2013, of two felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14, three felony counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14, one felony count of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and sentencing enhancement allegations for substantial sexual conduct with a child and inflicting great bodily injury were found true. (Santa Ana) – In an effort to help prevent prescription drug abuse and theft, the Orange County Health Care Agency, local law enforcement agencies and community partners will collaborate with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) to collect expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs on National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day – April 27, from 10 am to 2 pm. FAMILY HEALTH CLINIC OPENS NEW OC LOCATION WITH FREE HEALTHCARE FOR CHILDREN AGED 5 AND YOUNGER
The Hurtt Family Health Clinic will hold a Grand Opening event for its new clinic location in Santa Ana, Calif., giving media, donors and providers an opportunity to tour the new facility and witness the impact that this clinic has had on the lives of those in need, on Wednesday, May 1, 2013.
This is the organization’s second location in Orange County, through which it will provide free health services to patients who are five years old and younger, including immunizations. These services are reflective of the Hurtt Family Health Clinic’s core belief that a strong foundation of healthcare from a young age is key to protecting against preventable childhood diseases and health issues. Bruce Bauer, a Santa Ana resident who has been one of our top leaders with regard to finishing the “missing link” of the Santiago Creek Bike trail updated this situation via email today. He said that consultants have come in and made proposals to the City of Santa Ana on the bike trail plan and that the City is looking for our input.
The City of Santa Ana is hosting two open houses for residents to review and comment on concepts and recommendations contained in the city’s draft update of the General Plan Circulation Element and ways to improve neighborhoods, housing affordability, and mobility as part of the General Plan Housing Element.

Guess who swept the Orange County Academic Pentathlon this year? Santa Ana’s own MacArthur Fundamental Intermediate! Their two 8th grade teams took first AND second place overall and Mac’s only 7th grade team took first place!
Overall, over 54 individual medals were won as well.
Members of the CSEA, Chapter 41, representing Santa Ana’s Classified School Employees, have launched a recall against their Chapter President, Duane Lundquist. They are gathering signatures and need to get at least a 2/3 vote in order to oust Lundquist. Click here to read their petition.

Santa Ana Deputy City Manager Jill Arthur was placed on administrative leave this week pending a city-commissioned investigation into allegations that she engaged in misconduct following a traffic accident, according to the Voice of OC.
The Voice of OC reported that “According to sources familiar with the investigation who spoke on condition of anonymity, Arthur was involved in a car accident with Marcel Alvarez, a 22-year-old Buena Park resident. Rather than exchange insurance information, Arthur offered to get Alvarez a job by leveraging her influence at the Santa Ana Work Center, a city office that assists residents in finding employment, sources said.” Continue reading

And just on the heels of the Galaxy’s marketing efforts in Santa Ana, Chivas USA returns to the Santa Ana area to market this weekend’s game against the San Jose Earthquakes.
Edgar Mejía, who is on loan this season from Chivas de Guadalajara, and Anaheim native Carlos Borja will be in person at the Super A’s restaurant at 2949 Fairview Rd in Costa Mesa this Thursday April, 25th.
