It looks like our Santa Ana City Council is beginning to wave the white flag as the State of California continues to demand the return of millions of dollars of redevelopment funds.
“Santa Ana City Council members Tuesday night in a closed-door meeting decided to freeze payments to affordable housing developers depending on funds central to a $54-million standoff between city officials and the state Department of Finance. The move reverses a defiant stance council members took last December to continue paying the developers, despite the threatened use of “clawback” measures allowed under the redevelopment dissolution bills that empower Sacramento to withhold sales and property tax revenue. Such a punitive move could cripple the city’s already fragile financial position,” according to the Voice of OC. Continue reading→
ORANGE RESIDENT GLORIA ZAMBRANO HONORED WITH FAIRHAVEN’S OLIVER HALSELL CARE AWARD
SANTA ANA, Calif. – February 21, 2012 – For Orange resident Gloria Zambrano, caring for seniors is a proud family tradition. The daughter of a senior care nurse, Gloria accompanied her mother to work as a young girl where she would participate in activities with residents and do whatever she could to bring joy to their day. As she grew, so did her passion for service, leading her to an 18-year career in senior care.
Zambrano, resident services director for Fountain Senior Assisted Living is being honored as the February recipient of Fairhaven’s Oliver Halsell Care Award. Fairhaven, an Orange County mortuary and memorial park with locations in Santa Ana and Mission Viejo, created the recognition program in 2012 to pay tribute to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional care in their profession, community and the world at large. ” The City of Santa Ana will pay out more than $700,000 under the severance agreement struck with former city manager Paul M. Walters,” according to the O.C. Register.
The Voice of OC asked Santa Ana Mayor Pro Tem Sal Tinajero if the council majority miscalculated? “A miscalculation is the car’s running at 50 miles per hour and you think you can get across before you get hit,” Tinajero said. “But if the car speeds to 110 miles per hour, that’s not a miscalculation, someone just changed the rules on you.” Continue reading→

Not only was Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez the driving force behind the ouster of Santa Ana City Manager Paul Walters – my sources are now telling me that she has apparently turned on the Santa Ana Police Department.
I am hearing that Martinez is trying to get rid of the SAPD Strike Force – the heroic police officers who helped stem the tide against gang violence and drug dealing in our city. She blames them, I am told, for the arrest of her half brother, a few years ago, during her failed campaign for Mayor. She blames Walters for that arrest too, I am told. Continue reading→
