The Registrar of Voters Office will begin mailing out the Vote-by-mail ballots starting Tuesday, October 9, 2018. If you are interested in voting my mail, the deadline to complete your application and request a Vote-by-Mail ballot is Tuesday, October 30, 2018.

Any registered voter may vote using a vote-by-mail ballot instead of going to the polls on Election Day. A voter may request a vote-by-mail ballot for a single election or permanent vote-by-mail voter (formerly referred to as absentee ballot). Continue reading→

Man pleads guilty to helping a Santa Ana psychiatrist to illegally sell prescription drugs

William Jason Plumley, 41, a Huntington Beach man accused of conspiring with a Santa Ana psychiatrist to sell prescription opioids, pleaded guilty Tuesday to federal drug-distribution charges according to the O.C. Register.

Plumley accepted a plea deal that required him to admit to federal charges of distributing methamphetamine and conspiring to distribute controlled substances. Continue reading→

The OC Health Care Agency has released a list of the eateries (including restaurants, caterers and even school kitchens) that they inspected and shut down for the week of Sept. 28 to Oct. 5, 2018. Most of these eateries reopen pretty quickly after the health inspectors determine their issues have been resolved. Here is the list:

  • Luv’n Donuts, 2729 N. Bristol St., Suite B4, Santa Ana, Closed: Oct. 4, Reason: Cockroach infestation, Reopened: Oct. 5

If you vote by absentee ballot you should be receiving your ballot in the mail this weekend or at the start of next week. We have developed this Voter Guide to help you sort through the many candidates and ballot measures.

There are three open seats this year on the Santa Ana City Council, thanks to term limits. Incumbents Sal Tinajero, Michele Martinez and David Benavides are out.

The City of Santa Ana has fined a local business for a mess made by a homeless vagrant!

Kim Riker moved her company, Rice Drywall Inc., a 45-year-old family business, to Santa Ana from its longtime home in South El Monte back in 2010. She must surely regret that now! The City of Santa Ana has actually fined her business $800 for the mess left outside their walls by a homeless vagrant, according to the O.C. Register.

This is outrageous! It is obvious that the city workers who issued a fine to Rice Drywall, Inc. are completely worthless and should be fired. This ridiculous action also means that we need to ensure that we get new leadership on the City Council. Fortunately several of the incumbents are termed out. One of them, Mayor Pro Tem Michele Martinez, was contacted by Riker – and did not bother to respond to her constituent. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Detectives Arrest After School Instructional Provider For Multiple Child Abuse Charges

Eddy Bustamante Infante (23-years-old), a resident of Santa Ana, was arrested for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. Infante has been an After School Instructional Provider / Teacher’s Aide at Greenville Elementary School located at 3600 S. Raitt Street in Santa Ana since 2015.

The 12-year-old female victim reported that Infante sexually assaulted her during an after school program when she was only 10-years-old. The victim did not immediately report this incident. Detectives launched an investigation and located additional female victims who reported Infante also sexually assaulted them. To date, SAPD detectives have identified 3 victims in this case. Learn how to garden at upcoming Santa Ana Community Garden Work Day events

The Santa Ana Community Garden Program is hosting a series of Garden Work Day events. They could use help in the process of transitioning their larger community gardens from summer to fall!

Any and all residents interested in learning about seasonal crop rotation are invited to participate and learn from their staff and each other. Gardening activities include clearing out seasonal plants, turning existing compost, adding fresh compost, collecting seeds, planting seeds and transplanting seedlings.

On October 2, 2018, Santa Ana Police Detectives arrested Jonathan Lamont Jenkins (57-years-old), a resident of Riverside, for Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child. Jenkins has been a youth pastor at the Starlight Baptist Church located at 1201 West Second Street in Santa Ana for the past two years. Jenkins has been a member of the church since 2012. Santa Ana College – The Saga of Mismanagement Continues

The mismanagement within the Rancho Santiago CCD (RSCCD) has been well documented. An editorial we previously posted accurately described the leader of the District, Raul Rodriguez as a “train wreck.” In every organization, mismanagement creates “rot” that trickles downward and the RSCCD is no exception. When it directly affects the students and taxpayers, there are no excuses.

Santa Ana College’s (SAC) Psychological Services program has always been an integral part of the services that the college has provided to its 30, 000 students. In May of 2017, the program employed two tenured full time psychologists, a part-time psychologist and three doctoral level interns to serve the mental health needs of SAC’s student body. As detailed on the college’s website, the program provided support for students in the areas of anger management, anxiety/stress management, depression/lack of motivation, domestic violence, eating disorders, family and social relationships/life transitions, LGBTQ related-support, sexual assault, and substance abuse. This service is not free for students. Students pay a Health Center fee of $19 a semester to avail themselves of support from Psychological Services as well as SAC’s Student Health Center.
