You know, I have never even met Ryan Chase? And if I did see him in real life, I probably wouldn’t even know the difference unless he introduced himself. Saw him speak at a city council meeting about that stupid train they’re building through 4th st. (BTW, public transportation and the corporate elite forcing us to drive and own cars in order to get by in this stupid So. Cal. Economy, is a whole other rant I could go on and on about for like a hundred pages) one time, but I didn’t get a look at his face as I believe he was sitting in back of me, then he jetted off right after he talked. DTSA’s Memphis closes with a scare as a guy pulls a knife

The Memphis at the Santora partied one last time last night, as they are closing down.  But the night ended ominously as a suspect pulled a knife on David Hastie, a partner at the Memphis, which is located in Downtown Santa Ana (DTSA).

David wrote about this on his Facebook page – see the comments in the pictures below.  Apparently David manned up and took the knife away from the suspect.  David called the SAPD and he is pressing charges against the miscreant.  And good news – David wasn’t hurt although I am sure his nerves were frazzled. A civil war has broken out in Santa Ana’s Artists Village and it all started with a comment posted by Sandra “Pocha” Peña Sarmiento (yes she has a lot of names) over at the OC Weekly, under the pen name “Pocharte.”  Here is the now infamous comment:

This is truly a sad development. Matt’s gallery was a much loved gathering place and his murals were beautiful expressions of our local artists’ vision. Now all this has gone the way of the gorgeous Caio Trattoria murals created by dozens of Artists Village tenants in the ’90’s & painted over by Chapter One when they moved in. Well it looks like Jack Jakosky, the owner of the Santora building who has made headlines recently for whitewashing a mural and evicting artists, is going to try to salvage his reputation by bringing in a bunch of musicians from Los Angeles.

Tonight is the Santa Ana Art Walk! Come to Downtown Santa Ana and check out all the exhibits and live music – and enjoy the local bars and restaurants, from about 7 to 10 pm.

This Saturday….AVANTGARDEN is proud to present the work of NANCY T STEWART…for the month of March. Nancy’s art explores all media from pen and ink, watercolors, oils, encaustics, to printing and mixed media. Her “work has become more internal, a reflection of what is going on for me, sometimes based on a feeling, or an image I imagined, or even something I read that touched me.” In addition to working on her art she participates in painting workshops for wounded warriors, victims of sexual abuse and battered women through Art & Creativity for Healing, Inc. In 2008 she was awarded the Kenneth A. Picerne Foundation’s Senior Artists grant for her work at Children’s Hospital of Orange County. This award afforded her time in the Outpatient Infusion Center with patients and their families creating art. Continue reading→

This Saturday, May 5, be sure to stop by the Downtown Santa Ana Art Walk.  This will be the weirdest Art Walk ever with the Santa Ana Cinco de Mayo festival occurring concurrently, and a protest by the Santora artists who are bent out of shape because the Newsong Church is buying the Santora building.

You’ll find arts, crafts and live entertainment at the Art Walk, centrally located at: Artists Village – Second Street Promenade (2nd & Broadway) & the Santiago Arts Colony (Santa Ana Blvd. & Poinsettia).  There is always something new to see !  Continue reading→
