Each May 5th (Cinco de Mayo), the City of Santa Ana experiences a high volume of unsanctioned cruising activity. This unsanctioned activity produces public safety concerns, numerous calls for service and grid-lock. In an effort to provide a safe environment and minimize the impact on our local neighborhoods, the Santa Ana Police Department will be deploying extra police personnel to deal with the influx of cruiser activity. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Attempt kidnapping of 15 yo student on way to school one suspect in custody second suspect and vehicle outstanding

On 4/24/2013, at 8:24am, a 15-year-old girl was walking to Valley High School in the area of 1250 S. Sullivan. As she walked past a small red compact vehicle that was parked on the street, a male Hispanic, later identified as suspect Moises Rendon (28), Santa Ana, suddenly jumped out of the passenger seat wearing gloves and holding a rag in one hand. The suspect ran toward victim and attempted to grab her. The girl was able to escape and ran. The suspect then re-entered the vehicle, which was subsequently driven out of the area by the other male occupant.

The incident was immediately reported by witnesses who described the vehicle and suspect. Officers arrived at the scene and learned the suspect may reside at the residence in the 1400 block S. Sullivan. Officers responded to the location and made contact with a possible suspect. A field show-up with the victim and a witness resulted in positive identification of the suspect Moises Rendon. The driver and suspect vehicle is still outstanding. The suspect vehicle is described as a red Toyota Corolla with a spoiler on the rear trunk. Suspect Rendon will be booked into the Santa Ana Police Department Jail for Attempt Kidnap. Continue reading→

The Santa Ana Police Department will be conducting a specialized Motorcycle Safety Enforcement Operation on 4/25/2013 in an effort to lower deaths and injuries. Extra officers will be on duty patrolling areas frequented by motorcyclists and where motorcycle crashes occur. Officers will be looking for violations made by drivers and riders alike that can lead to motorcycle crashes. They will be cracking down on both those operating regular vehicles and motorcycles under the influence of drugs or alcohol, speeding, making illegal turns, or any other dangerous violation. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Santa Ana Police assist Federal Agency in targeting illegal Commercial Marijuana Businesses

Commercial Marijuana Businesses in City of Santa Ana Targeted with Justice Department Warning Letters and Asset Forfeiture Lawsuits

LOS ANGELES – In the latest of a series of federal enforcement actions against the commercial marijuana industry in California, federal authorities today moved against 63 illegal marijuana stores in the City of Santa Ana.

In federal court this morning, prosecutors filed three asset forfeiture lawsuits against properties in Santa Ana where a total of seven marijuana stores are currently operating. Authorities also executed federal search warrants at two of the stores involved in the asset forfeiture actions. Additionally, prosecutors sent warning letters to people associated with 56 other stores not involved in the forfeiture actions. The federal actions involve all known marijuana stores in the City of Santa Ana. Continue reading→

Victim ID’ed: Martha Socorro Marin (22) Santa Ana

Officers responded to a residence in the 1000 block of South Austin for a reported shooting. Officers arrived to find a 30 year old woman who was unconscious and suffering from a small puncture wound to the upper chest. A 34 year old male at the scene advised officers, he had accidentally shot the woman in the chest with his BB rifle. Continue reading→

Council Member Martinez’ hysterical stance on CDBG funds is self serving

Santa Ana Councilwoman Michele Martinez had a total fit at this week’s City Council meeting, regarding the CDBG (Community Development Block Grants) funding that the city is applying for. These federal funds last year totalled $5.7 million. These funds are supposed to be used “to improve low- and moderate-income neighborhoods and eliminate blight,” according to the O.C. Register.

The irony is that Martinez has always voted for the CDBG funds as they have been presented to the Council – but now she is going off about past funding, including funding for a police helicopter that would have otherwise been grounded. Continue reading→

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Accident in the area of First and Bristol, victim momentarily trapped under vehicle

On 4-17-13 at approximately 12:30 pm a Ford Expedition, driven by a male Hispanic, approximately 50 years of age, was in involved in a minor accident in the area of First and Bristol, with a privately operated school bus. After the collision with the school bus, the Ford Expedition veered off the road, and into the “Big K’s Burger” restaurant, striking three patrons inside the restaurant.

One of the persons struck by the vehicle was momentarily trapped under the vehicle. He was subsequently treated at the scene by fire personnel and transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. The other victims were not seriously injured. There were no injuries reported on the school bus. The investigation is ongoing. Continue reading→

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Santa Ana Police Homicide Detectives working stabbing case in the Apartment complex 600 W. 3rd St.

Officer responded to the apartment complex in the 600 block of west 3rd Street reference a stabbing just accord. Officers located the victim, a male Hispanic in his 20’s, who resides at this apartment with two female roommates. At approximately 2325 hours, the suspect a male friend of one of the female roommates entered the apartment and tried to contact the female resident. The suspect is described as male White, 20’s was believed to be extremely intoxicated and scaring the female resident. The victim tried to intervene and asked the suspect to leave. The suspect grabbed a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times in the upper torso before fleeing on foot. Continue reading→

On March 15, Jason E. “Hoss” Hallstrom and Travis Mock, 29, were being chased by SAPD SWAT officers on I-5 when they got off at Grand Avenue and headed north, Santa Ana authorities said. The officers in question ended up shooting Hallstrom to death, and wounding Mock.

No one seems to know exactly what happened or why the SAPD SWAT team chased down and shot these individuals. However a friend of Hallstrom, Jeffrey Lowe, has contacted me with information that suggests the shooting was premeditated.

According to Lowe, it has been said that Mock has a million dollar law suit against the City of Anaheim for a O.I.S. (officer-involved shooting) that happened back in Feb. 2011. That is not a lot of money for a city awash in tourist tax revenue, however Lowe is wondering if the public is altogether aware just how the Anaheim/Santa Ana police departments are connected? Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Police arrest juvenile suspect from January 20th attempted rape

UPDATE: Today, Santa Ana Family Crimes Detectives arrested a 17-year-old male in connection with an attempt rape occurring on January 20th, 2013. After analyzing DNA evidence from items which fell to the ground during the confrontation between the victim’s daughter and the suspect, detectives learned the identity of the suspect’s acquaintance. That acquaintance, also a juvenile, led detectives to the suspect. In the interview with detectives, the juvenile made incriminating statements. Continue reading→

Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: April is Distracted Driver Awareness Month

As part of April’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month campaign, the Santa Ana Police Department will be actively ticketing those texting or operating hand-held cell phones for the month of April. Drivers who break the law and place themselves and others in danger will be cited with no warnings. The current minimum ticket cost is $159, with subsequent tickets costing at least $279. In April 2012, over 57,000 tickets were written statewide for texting and hand-held cell use. There were nearly 450,000 convictions in 2012. Whether it’s a ticket or a crash, as the campaign theme states, “It’s Not Worth It!” Continue reading→
