Jason Erling Hallstrom, 41, a man who was wounded in an officer-involved shooting in Santa Ana on March 15, died last Saturday, according to Santa Ana Police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna, as quoted in the L.A. Times.
Hallstrom had been charged with a felony count of unlawfully taking a vehicle and a misdemeanor count of resisting a peace officer, according to court records. He was due in court Monday.

Well, we have a new Police Chief in Santa Ana, Carlos Rojas, but he is continuing the Santa Ana Police Department’s annual tradition of cracking down on Easter cruising, according to a press release issued today.

As with past years, the Santa Ana Police Department is taking pro-active measures to deter cruising activity throughout the city on Easter evening. SAPD Advisory: Santa Ana Police Department OIS Update
At 1455 hours, two Santa Ana Police Officers were involved in an OIS after a short freeway pursuit. Two suspects were struck by gunfire, and the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
Suspects remain at the hospital in serious but stable conditions. Both suspects have been booked for grand theft auto, pending additional charges to follow.

SANTA ANA – A foster mother will be arraigned tomorrow for being an accessory to her husband’s rape of a child under their care. Maria Esther Hernandez, 59, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of accessory after the fact. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of three years in state prison. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Fatal Collision 1200 S. Fairview – driver arrested suspicion of drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.
On 3/11/13 at approximately 0032 hours, 37 year old Costa Mesa Resident Felix Jacobo Brito was driving southbound on Fairview Street from McFadden. Brito lost control of his vehicle and veered off the roadway into an adjacent flood control channel. As a result of the collision, one of the passengers was ejected from the vehicle and was declared deceased at the scene. Brito and a third occupant were transported to a local hospital for treatment. On 3/08/13 at approximately 0200 hours, a 25 year old male was driving alone, traveling east on MacArthur Boulevard in his 1997 Toyota Corolla. It appears the Corolla was driving at a high rate of speed during rain and failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway in the area of 2900 W. MacArthur. The vehicle went out of control as it traveled up over the south curb and sidewalk to where it struck a large tree with the impact on the driver side door area of the car. Continue reading

March 6, 2013 — Santa Ana Police Department and Southern California Edison (SCE) is advising customers to be aware of a new telephone scam that is demanding immediate payment for alleged past due electricity bills. Imposters have been calling SCE customers telling them they must make immediate payment on past due bills or have their electric service disconnected. The callers are also demanding that payment be made through a prepaid cash card, such as a PayPal or Green Dot card. Continue reading
I keep receiving DUI checkpoint notices from the SAPD and I have to wonder why our Santa Ana City Council won’t move to cancel theses useless exercises.
Simply put, DUI checkpoints don’t work. They rarely catch any actual drunk drivers. Instead they become a hassle for our residents who are undocumented immigrants. The State of California won’t let them drive legally, so if they get caught driving during a DUI checkpoint they could end up losing their cars, which they depend on to get to and from work.
Our City Council is supposed to be progressive and “vibrant” so why don’t they stop these useless charades? Continue reading

BASED ON LEADS OBTAINED AFTER MEDIA STORIES DETECTIVES RECEIVED A TIP THAT THE SUSPECT MAY BE THOMAS WALKER A LOCAL TRANSIENT. AS DETECTIVES WERE WORKING ON LEADS TO FULLY IDENTIFY AND LOCATE THOMAS WALKER THEY RECEIVED AN ADDITIONAL TIP FROM A PERSON WHO WATCHED MEDIA REPORTS AND SAW THE COMPOSITE AND THE INFORMATION ON THE STOLEN BEACH CRUISER.
