Santa Ana police officers “collected 237 guns today, between 8:45 a.m. and 2 p.m., from a steady steam of cars throughout the day,” according to the O.C. Register.
The residents who turned in their guns received gift cards to local merchants, such as Wal Mart and Northgate Markets, that varied in face value from $100 to $200 each, depending on the types of guns that were turned in. The money for the gift cards, about $80K, came from drug busts.
But did today’s Santa Ana gun buy back actually accomplish anything? An Obama appointee named Greg Ridgeway, who is the Deputy Director of the National Institute of Justice (NIJ), a subgroup within the Justice Department, doesn’t think so. He wrote an internal memo, that got leaked, that debunked just about all of the Obama administration’s gun control schemes, according to The Blaze. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Gang Related Homicide Arrests Homicide occured February 14, 2013 at about 5:18 p.m in the 1900 blk of west 3rd St.
On Thursday, February 14, 2013 at about 5:18 p.m., Santa Ana Police Officers responded to the report of a shooting that had just occurred in the south alley of 1900 W. 3rd St. The arriving officers discovered two males, each suffering from gunshot wounds. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment where 19-year-old Joseph Castro was pronounced dead several hours later. The second victim is recovering from gunshot wounds. The Santa Ana Police Department has announced the City of Santa Ana’s First Ever Anonymous Gun Buy Back Program, which will take place on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, from 9 am to 2 pm, at the Santa Ana Bowl, located at 602 N. Flower St., in Santa Ana.
Residents of Santa Ana will receive a $100 gift card for handguns, shotguns and rifles, and a $200 gift card for assault weapons. Undetermined is whether or not criminals and gang members will be motivated to turn in their guns. Continue reading
Not only was Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez the driving force behind the ouster of Santa Ana City Manager Paul Walters – my sources are now telling me that she has apparently turned on the Santa Ana Police Department.
I am hearing that Martinez is trying to get rid of the SAPD Strike Force – the heroic police officers who helped stem the tide against gang violence and drug dealing in our city. She blames them, I am told, for the arrest of her half brother, a few years ago, during her failed campaign for Mayor. She blames Walters for that arrest too, I am told. Continue reading

SANTA ANA – A man was sentenced today to 16 years to life in state prison for murdering his mother’s houseguest by stabbing him in the chest with a pocket knife. Saul Jose Salazar, 29, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury Nov. 26, 2012, of one felony count of second degree murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon. MAN CONVICTED OF IMPREGNATING 11-YEAR-OLD FEMALE RELATIVE AND SEXUALLY ASSAULTING HER FOR NINE YEARS
SANTA ANA – A man was convicted yesterday of sexually abusing a female relative for nine years and impregnating her at the age of 11. Mariano Antonio Castro, 58, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury Feb. 13, 2013, of two felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14, three felony counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child under 14, one felony count of continuous sexual abuse of a child under 14, and sentencing enhancement allegations for substantial sexual conduct with a child and inflicting great bodily injury were found true. He faces a maximum sentence of 78 years to life in state prison and mandatory lifetime sex offender registration at his sentencing April 26, 2013, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-28, Central Jail, Santa Ana. Santa Ana Police Department Advisory: Update on Murder Investigation 2/14/13 1900 Block West 3rd Street
On 02/14/13, at 1718 hours officers responded to the 1900block of W. 3rd St. on a report of a shooting with two subjects down. Upon arrival, they found two males, ages 18 and 19, with gunshot wounds to their upper body. Paramedics transported the both victims to a local hospital where the 19-year-old was pronounced dead.
