A bomb scare reported in DTSA’s East End tonight turned out to be an inert grenade, according to the SAPD.
Apparently a large fight broke out at the Block Party, at 4th and French, in DTSA. While SAPD police officers were trying to break up the fight they came across a hand grenade in “close proximity.” Continue reading
Steve Rodriguez, a 60-year-old homeless man, was identified by the SAPD as the alleged robber who was shot by an unidentified customer at the Cozy Corner Drive-In restaurant just past midnight this past Saturday, according to the SAPD.
On 05-26-18 at 12:46 a.m., SAPD police officers were dispatched to 426 N. Harbor Blvd. reference a robbery and shooting that had just occurred. A Male/Hispanic/Adult later identified as suspect Steve Rodriguez entered the Cozy Corner restaurant and was in the process of committing an armed robbery with a black revolver. During the robbery a silver Honda Accord occupied by several subjects was stopped in the drive-thru lane by the window. An occupant in the vehicle shot robbery suspect Rodriguez twice in the upper torso. Suspect Rodriguez was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The suspect and vehicle involved in the shooting of Rodriguez fled the scene southbound on Harbor Blvd. Officers were able to obtain surveillance video of the incident. Continue reading
An unidentified man was shot to death and another was critically stabbed Monday night, May 28, according to the O.C. Register.
The man who was shot to death was found by responding SAPD police officers just after 10:15 p.m. at Pomona and Sycamore streets, according to the SAPD. He had been wounded in the torso by gunfire. He later died at a local hospital. Continue reading

Santa Ana’s latest shooting has made national news. A customer at the Cozy Corner Drive-In Restaurant saw that a robbery was in progress at the restaurant, at 12:43 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, and he pulled out his pistol and fired several shots at the robber, according to the O.C. Register.

Suspect/Arrested: Antonio Davila (36) Santa Ana
A 36-year-old registered sex offender was arrested for child molestation and possession of child pornography. Antonio Davila took a picture of himself engaging in a sex act with a 7-year-old relative. Davila sent the photo to the child through her Snapchat account. The account was created by the child’s older sibling. The child was playing on her tablet when her mother discovered the message containing the disturbing image. The child’s mother reacted quickly and took a photo of the message before it disappeared. The child’s mother immediately called the police. Davila was arrested and Santa Ana Police detectives were called to investigate. Continue reading

Advisory: SAPD Detective Investigating Homicide 3100 South Main Street
Victim: Bryan Anthony Steubing (20) Santa Ana
On Saturday, May 19, 2018, at approximately 03:40 AM, Santa Ana Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at 3100 S. Main Street in the City of Santa Ana. Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
Orange County Fire Authority Paramedics responded and transported the victim to Orange County Global Medical Center. Later, Orange County Medical Center staff declared the victim, Bryan Anthony Steubing, 20 years-old, to be deceased. The shooting appeared to be gang related. Continue reading

Jesus Canales, 24, of Santa Ana, aAn ex-fugitive who spent years on the county’s most-wanted list after he gunned down a 16-year-old gang rival and fled to Mexico, was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Friday, according to the O.C. Register.
Co-defendant Juan Manuel “Stitch” Galvan, 25, Santa Ana, was charged on July 25, 2011, with one felony count of murder and one felony count of street terrorism, with sentencing enhancements for criminal street gang activity and vicarious discharge of a firearm causing death. Galvan eventually pleaded guilty to manslaughter in exchange for his testimony against Canales and he was ultimately sentenced to six years in jail. Continue reading

SANTA ANA POLICE STEP UP DUI ENFORCEMENT
The Santa Ana Police Department will be conducting a DUI / Driver’s License checkpoint on Friday May 18th, 2018. It will begin at 8:30 PM and is scheduled to conclude at 2:00AM. It will be conducted in the area of 2700 N Main Street, in the City of Santa Ana.
The primary purpose of a DUI Checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, not to increase arrests. All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI / Driver’s License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. The DMV reports that unlicensed drivers are 4.9 times more likely to cause a fatal crash than a licensed driver.
The checkpoint will be staffed by officers trained in the detection of alcohol and drug impairment to provide on-the-spot assessments of drivers suspected of alcohol or drug impairment. All checkpoints are conducted in accordance with the guidelines for DUI checkpoint operations outlined in the California Supreme Court decision, Ingersoll v. Palmer.
All vehicles may be checked and drivers who are under the influence of alcohol and / or drugs will be arrested. Our objective is to send a clear message to those who are considering driving a motor vehicle after consuming alcohol and / or drugs – Drunk Driving, Over the Limit, Under Arrest. The public is encouraged to help keep roadways safe by calling 911 if they see a suspected impaired driver. Funding for this operation is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Santa Ana’s Orange County Global Medical Center was on lockdown today after a male suspect said he had a gun, at about 8:15 a.m. this morning, according to the O.C. Register.
The Orange County Global Medical Center is located at 1001 N Tustin Ave., in Santa Ana. This medical center is located just a few blocks southeast of the Albertson’s where a robbery suspect got away last week after a police pursuit from Mission Viejo. Continue reading
