SANTA ANA, Calif. – A gang member was convicted yesterday of murdering an innocent bystander in a retaliatory gang shooting in Santa Ana. Rene Mojarra, 24, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury on March 14, 2017, of one felony count of special circumstances murder, one felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon, and one felony count of street terrorism, with sentencing enhancements for murder committed for criminal street gang purpose, personal discharge of a firearm causing death, and criminal street gang activity. Mojarra faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole at his sentencing on May 19, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-30, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. On 3/12/17 at approximately 7:00 p.m., Sera Noemy Enriquez (12), left her residence located in the 1400 block of N. Durant Street, while her mother was away running errands.

Four more shootings were reported in Santa Ana over the weekend

On Saturday, March 11 at about 9 p.m. SAPD police officers responded to the area of 215 South Hickory after reports of a shooting. When they arrived they located a vehicle struck by gunfire, according to SAPD Case # 17-06591.

This shooting occurred northwest of Roosevelt Elementary School in Santa Ana’s Ward 2, which is represented by Mayor Pro Tem Michele Martinez. Continue reading→

Santa Ana man will spend about four years in prison after carving his name in his girlfriend’s chest

Sergio Joaquin Mendoza, a 27-year-old man was convicted Thursday of carving his name on his girlfriend’s chest with a razor blade and several other attacks in Santa Ana two years ago, according to the O.C. Register.

Mendoza evaded a felony kidnapping charge but he was convicted of misdemeanor and felony counts of false imprisonment.  Continue reading→

Anthony Gálvez, a 13 year old boy, with a mental capacity of a 5 year old, walked away from his residence in the 600 block of N. Jenkins. He was last seen in the area of 300 N. Euclid Way. SANTA ANA POLICE STEP UP DUI ENFORCEMENT

The Santa Ana Police Department will be conducting a DUI / Driver’s License checkpoint on Saturday, March 11th, 2017. It will begin at 9:30 p.m. and is scheduled to conclude at 2:30 a.m. It will be conducted in the area of 3500 W. 5th St., in the City of Santa Ana.

The primary purpose of a DUI Checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, not to increase arrests. All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI / Driver’s License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. The DMV reports that unlicensed drivers are 4.9 times more likely to cause a fatal crash than a licensed driver. Continue reading→

Two shootings were reported in Santa Ana on Tuesday

On Tuesday, March 7 at about 3 p.m. a female was driving in the area of 800 North Raitt when she heard multiple gunshots. She told SAPD police officers that she saw three suspects running and after the shots were fired her rear window was struck and shattered, according to SAPD Case # 17-06152.

This shooting happened a block east of the Santiago Little League which operates at El Salvador Park, next to Fremont Elementary School.

On February, 14th, 2017, SAPD Detectives requested media and the public’s assistance; Detectives released video and photographs of the two suspects wanted in connection to a series of commercial burglaries. Based on the information provided and the media stories completed, the detectives received tip information identifying suspect number one as Robert Andrew Austin (23).

Detectives shared this information with our patrol officers; On March 6th, 2017, members of the department’s Civic Center Detail located and arrested suspect Austin. Continue reading→

During the evening hours of Saturday, March 04, 2017, Detectives with the Santa Ana Police Department’s Vice and Narcotics Unit conducted an operation on Harbor Boulevard to target the level of street prostitution in that area.

On Friday, March 3 at about 10 p.m. several residents called in reports of a shooting in the area of 1200 West Brook Street. When officers arrived they located evidence of a shooting but all involved were gone, according to SAPD Case # 17-05818.

MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR SETTING FAMILY’S HOUSE ON FIRE AFTER DISPUTE

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man is scheduled to be arraigned today for setting his family’s house on fire after a dispute with the other occupants. Jose Luis Martinez Jr., 34, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of arson of an inhabited property and one felony count of unlawfully causing fire to an inhabited structure. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of nine years in state prison. The defendant is scheduled to be arraigned today, March 6, 2017, in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. GANG MEMBER LINKED TO ROBBERY THROUGH DNA ON CAR WINDOW CONVICTED OF ATTEMPTED MURDER AND ROBBERY

*A third-striker co-defendant was also convicted and sentenced in this case

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A Santa Ana criminal street gang member was convicted today of robbing a couple at gunpoint outside of their home to steal their car after being linked to the crime through DNA using the Orange County District Attorney’s (OCDA) local DNA database. Francisco Alberto Rodriguez, 27, Santa Ana, was found guilty by a jury of one felony count each of attempted murder, second degree robbery, second degree vehicle burglary, possession of a firearm by a felon, and street terrorism. Sentencing enhancements for criminal street gang activity, personal use of a firearm, and gang member vicarious use of a firearm were also found to be true. The defendant faces a maximum sentence of 29 years to life in state prison at his sentencing on April 28, 2017, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-29, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. Continue reading→

There was a shooting early this morning near Jerome Park

Shooting at W. Richland and S. Raitt Streets in Santa Ana

A male was parked near the corner of W. Richland and S. Raitt Streets, in Santa Ana, early this morning, just past midnight, when two male suspects walked up to him and a confrontation occurred where the suspects asked about gang affiliation and then proceed to assault the victim, according to SAPD Case number 17-5725.

The suspects fled in a vehicle and the victim followed. One of the suspects exited their car and shot at the victim striking the car only. Continue reading→

Man upset about a divorce arrested after allegedly burning down a house in Santa Ana

Fire at the 1000 block of W. Washington Avenue in Santa Ana

Jose Luis Martinez, 34, was arrested and booked on two counts of arson after the SAPD alleged that he set his own two-story house on fire last night, at the 1000 block of Washington Avenue on fire, at around 8 p.m., according to the O.C. Register.
