Two men in their late teens to early 20s were injured in a drive-by shooting in Santa Ana, near the intersection of South Main Street and East Chestnut Avenue, on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Santa Ana Police Department, as reported by the O.C. Register.
The men were actually shot in the 800 block of Cypress Avenue then they were taken by friends in a white van to a fire station by the intersection the police found them at. Continue reading
Police officers from the SAPD will apparently be discussing the possible use of body cameras on SAPD officers at the City Council’s Public Safety and Neighborhood Improvement Committee meeting tonight at 5:30 pm, at the conference room 1600 that is located inside the City Hall Ross Annex, at 20 Civic Center Plaza, according to the O.C. Register.

Anti-police protesters took over a span of First Street, in Santa Ana today, to protest the recent police shooting of Ernesto Javier Canepa Diaz, a man who was accused of robbing a 63-year-old Latina grandmother on Feb. 13 while she was loading her grandchildren into a car in the 2300 block of N. Louise St.
Taking over a public street without a parade permit is illegal and poses a danger to the drivers and the protesters. Continue reading

An unidentified woman crashed her car into several parked cars this morning on North Parton St., in between 15th and Washington, right next to Willard Intermediate School, according to local photographer and community activist Igmar Rodas.
The woman had minor injuries. She was taken to a local hospital by an ambulance. No other injuries were reported. Continue reading

MAN CONVICTED OF HIT AND RUN AND MANSLAUGHTER FOR KILLING THREE TEENS ON HALLOWEEN
SANTA ANA – A man was convicted today of hit and run and manslaughter for killing three teens on Halloween night. Jaquinn Ramone Bell, 32, Orange, pleaded guilty today to three felony counts of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, one felony count of hit and run with permanent injury or death, one misdemeanor count of driving on a suspended license, and sentencing enhancement allegations for fleeing the scene of a crime after committing vehicular manslaughter. He faces a maximum sentence of 13 years and eight months in state prison at his sentencing May 21, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.
When Bell was first charged on Nov. 4, 2014, he was also facing sentencing enhancement allegations for personally inflicting great bodily injury and a maximum sentence of 17 years in state prison. In February 2015, the California Supreme Court ruled that a great bodily injury enhancement could not attach to any manslaughter charge under any circumstance. As a result, an amended complaint was filed today, March 20, 2015, excluding the sentencing enhancement allegation for personally inflicting great bodily injury. Continue reading

MAN FORMERLY ON SAPD’S MOST WANTED LIST CONVICTED OF MURDERING EMPLOYER IN 2009
SANTA ANA – A man who was on the Santa Ana Police Department’s (SAPD) most wanted list was convicted today of murdering his employer. Gerald Guy Byrne, 54, was convicted of one felony count of second degree murder. The defendant has two prior strike convictions for robbery in 1986 and arson in 1993. The Court will hear a bifurcated trial on the defendant’s prior strike convictions on April 10, 2015, at 9:00 a.m., in Department C-41, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. Byrne faces a maximum sentence of 55 years to life in state prison if convicted of the prior strike offenses.
At the time of the crime, Byrne was working for 69-year-old Charles Samo. Continue reading

Advisory: SAPD Officers Arrest One for Carjacking Looking For Second Suspect And Weapon

On 3/16/15, at 8:53 A.M., officers were dispatched to the Northgate Market located at 1623 W. 17th Street (Ward 3) to investigate a carjacking which had just occurred.
Officers located the victim who told them that he parked his vehicle in the parking lot of the market and noticed the two suspects panhandling. The suspects asked him for money and he told them he was not interested as he entered the store. Continue reading
Today is St. Patrick’s Day and a Santa Ana father apparently chose to celebrate it by allegedly “attempting to stab his son before fleeing his home and leading police on a short pursuit before being subdued and taken into custody,” according to the O.C. Register.

Advisory: UPDATE: Vehicle vs. Pedestrian (1 year old Toddler) Identified
The deceased toddler has been identified as Jesus Alvarez ( 1 year old), Costa Mesa
On 3/14/15 at 2154 hours, officers responded to a report of a small child who had been struck by a vehicle in the area of 800 S. Newhope Street. Officers located the male toddler lying in the roadway at the intersection of Newhope and Flight Streets.
The child had been struck by a white Toyota Camry traveling north on Newhope in the #1 lane. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative throughout the investigation. Intoxication did not appear to be a factor in the collision. There is no indication that speed was a factor in this collision. The driver indicated he did not see the toddler on the roadway prior to the collision. Continue reading
This might the most horrific story we have ever reported. A little boy, only 2 years of age, somehow wandered off and left the safety of his home, at the 800 block of South Newhope Street, at about 10 p.m. on Saturday night. Sadly this story has a most unhappy ending.
The little boy was struck by a Toyota Camry, according to the O.C. Register.
The toddler was taken to a local hospital, where his parents joined him at his bedside, but he did not survive. Continue reading
A 19-year-old Santa Ana woman was shot in the leg this Thursday night, at around 8 pm, while she was hanging out with two friends in her driveway, at the 1700 block of North Spurgeon Street, according to the O.C. Register.
An 18-year-old and 17-year-old drove up to the woman and her friends and fired five shots. The woman was hit once in her leg.
Fortunately an SAPD police officer was nearby, heard the shots and took chase as he saw a car taking off from the vicinity. The police officer pulled over Joshua Fermin, 18 of Santa Ana and a 17-year-old male friend of his at the Main Street onramp to the southbound I-5. Continue reading

Advisory: Santa Ana Police Department & OCDA Investigating OIS and Shooting Incident
Suspect: Benito Osorio (39) Santa Ana
On 3-11-2015 at 1:00 PM SAPD Officers responded to a report of a shooting in progress in the 800 Block of South Cypress. The initial shooting investigation in the 800 Block of South Cypress revealed that the suspect located the victim, whom it is believed he had a dispute with regarding a female third party, who was not present. During the altercation the suspect fired his weapon at the victim; however the shots did not strike him. The suspect fled the shooting scene and was located by responding officers.
The officers ultimately stopped the suspect vehicle in the 300 Block of South Main Street. The suspect began pointing the gun at his head while still seated in the vehicle, eventually shooting himself. The suspect then exited the vehicle while still armed with the handgun and confronted the officers on scene, prompting an officer involved shooting. All of the officers involved in the incident were uninjured. The suspect was transported to Western Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. Continue reading

Apparently a man in a white truck shot at multiple people. SAPD police officers tried to pull him over in the 300 block of Cypress Ave. They ended up shooting the man after he shot at them. Continue reading
