Advisory: SAPD Homicide Detectives arrest suspect in murder investigation – 1300 Block North Harbor Blvd

Detail: On 5-28-2014 at approximately 1:20 AM, patrol officers responded to the apartment complex located in the 1300 block of North Harbor Blvd. Residents of an apartment at that complex found their roommate deceased inside their apartment. Based on the suspicious circumstances of the death Homicide Detectives were called to the scene.

As part of their ongoing investigation Homicide Detectives contacted and interviewed an acquaintance of the victim, Salvador Barragan (37) Anaheim. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Robbery Detectives request assistance in identifying suspects or information reference this crime

On 05/25/14, at 8:57 AM, suspect #1 and #2 entered the Café La Me after arriving in the suspect vehicle. Suspect #1 brandished a semi-automatic handgun and pistol-whipped an employee before taking undetermined amount of money from the cash register. Suspect #2, the driver of the suspect vehicle, entered carrying zip-ties and proceeded to zip-tie and pat down several patrons. The suspects fled eastbound from the Café in the suspect vehicle. PAROLEE ARRAIGNED ON CHARGES OF HUMAN TRAFFICKING MINOR AND PIMPING AND PANDERING HER AND ANOTHER FEMALE TEENAGER

SANTA ANA – A parolee was arraigned today on charges of trafficking a minor, and pimping and pandering her and another teenager. Dominique Legrand Lewis, 21, San Diego, was charged today with five felony counts including human trafficking, pimping a minor, pandering with a minor over 16 years old by procuring, pimping, and pandering, with a sentencing enhancement for a prior prison strike conviction for residential burglary in 2012. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 26 years and four months in state prison. He is being held on $100,000 bail and has a parole hold from the previous conviction. Lewis was arraigned today and is scheduled for pre-trial on June 4, 2014, at 8:30 a.m. in Department C-55, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. Continue reading→

The SAPD arrests activists who were protesting detention of LGBTQ immigrants

Today, 5 trans and queer immigrant activists were arrested in front of the Santa Ana City Jail where transgender immigrant detainees are held, blocking the intersection at the entrance of the jail while chained to a metal cage, surrounded by rainbow flags and a banner that read “Liberation Not Deportation, Obama is the Deporter in Chief.” Amidst chants of “Don’t Stop at Marriage, Trans and Queers are Being Deported,” “Come Out, Fight Back,” and “Obama, Obama, Don’t Deport Another Transhermana,” the activists protested to demand justice for the more than 267,000 LGBTQ immigrants living in the U.S., an end to the Obama Administration’s deportations, and call for the city to cut its contract with ICE.

The Santa Ana Police Department reported that “LGBTQ and Immigrant Rights groups protested today at 8:10 AM. The group of approximately 100 protesters set up a chain link fenced cage in the middle of the intersection of Civic Center and Boyd Way, completely blocking the intersection. Inside the chain link fenced cage, four protesters chained themselves to the fence. The 5th protester was chained to the outside fencing.” Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Detectives locate missing person after 10 years victim of kidnap and sexual assault

In August of 2004, a 15-year-old was reported missing to the Santa Ana Police Department by her mother. The mother reported that her daughter went missing along with her cohabitant boyfriend, Isidro Garcia, after a domestic violence incident. At the time, the mother suspected Garcia of sexually abusing her daughter; however she had no evidence to support this belief.

On 5-20-14, the Victim, now 25-years-old, disclosed the circumstances of her disappearance to law enforcement. Continue reading→

Advisory: Homicide Detectives investigating shooting death 200 block South Newhope

Details: On 5-18-14 at approximately 0235 a.m. officers responded to the 300 block of south Newhope regarding a shooting victim. Upon arrival, they located the victim a 22 year old male who had been shot in the upper torso. He has been identified as 22-year-old Leonicio Banuelos.

Orange County Fire Authority and paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to UCI Medical where he later died from his injuries. Continue reading→

Advisory: Homicide Detectives investigating shooting death

On 5-16-14, at approximately 11:55 p.m. Officers responded to the gas station located at 1913 W. Edinger regarding a woman who was seated inside a car who had been shot. Upon arrival, they found a woman, possibly in her teens that had been shot in the upper torso. Orange County Fire Authority and paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the woman deceased. Homicide detectives responded to the scene and are currently investigating the incident.

Homicide Detectives have identified victim as Janet Jimenez (17) of Santa Ana. There is currently no photo available. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Robbery Detectives request public’s assistance in identifying Check Into Cash store robber

On May 13, at approximately 4:45 pm, the suspect entered the Check Into Cash business (1601 W. 17th Street) and inquired about a title loan for a 1996 U-Haul commercial truck. The suspect left the business to find his cousin to co-sign for the loan and returned a short time later. The suspect stayed in the business for approximately forty minutes and then brandished a small black revolver at the employee, demanding cash and threatening to kill her. The employee placed an undisclosed amount into a small pink child’s backpack carried by the suspect. The suspect was last seen on foot heading westbound on 17th Street. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Saturday, May 17th – 9:00PM – 3:00AM 2000 W. First Street

The Santa Ana Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Saturday, May 17th, 2014. It will begin at 9:00PM and is scheduled to conclude at 3:00AM. It will be conducted in the area of 2000 W. First Street, in the City of Santa Ana.

The primary purpose of a DUI Checkpoint is to deter impaired driving, not to increase arrests. All too often, members of our community are senselessly injured or killed on local roadways by impaired drivers. This DUI/Drivers License checkpoint is an effort to reduce those tragedies, as well as ensuring drivers have a valid driver’s license. The DMV reports that unlicensed drivers are 4.9 times more likely to cause a fatal crash than a licensed driver. Continue reading→

Santa Ana residents rang in Mother’s Day weekend with a gang-related shooting in front of a house and a DUI crash into an SAPD cop car.

Santa Ana police Cmdr. Jason Viramontes said the shooting happened in the 4700 block of West Oakfield Avenue about 11:45 a.m. after a man driving a gray, newer model pickup truck drove past three men standing in front of a home. After some looks were exchanged, the truck made a u-turn and pulled up in front of the house, he said. The driver asked the men where they were from and fired eight to nine shots with a handgun, hitting two of them several times in their lower bodies before speeding off, according to the O.C.
