The SAPD administration building to be named after Paul Walters on 5/29

When the Santa Ana City Council stupidly fired former City Manager and Chief of Police Paul Walters, who was the victim of a political witch hunt against Mayor Miguel Pulido, they knew they were in real legal trouble because he had contracts in place. The agreement they worked out with Walters included naming the city’s police building in his honor.

The agreement stipulated that within 18 to 24 months the city’s police administration building would be renamed the Paul M. Walters Police Administrative Building and have a plaque in the lobby hailing Walters’ “service to the city,” according to the Voice of OC.

Well that day has come! There will be a ceremony at the Santa Ana Police Administration Building on May 29, 2014, at 4 pm, in the community room. Continue reading→

Murder victim identified at 2900 North Bristol

Victim Identified: Homicide 2900 block North Bristol

On May 6th at 0232 AM, Officers responded to a shooting call at 2900 block N Bristol and found the victim VIDAL QUEVEDO (27), Santa Ana, with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. The Victim was found in the north alley/parking lot of the apartment complex. Victim Quevedo was transported to UCI Medical Center where a short time later he died of his injuries.

Witnesses heard 1-2 shots fired and two possible male suspects were observed running from the scene. Continue reading→

Protest against the SAPD’s ICE deal at the next City Council meeting on 5/6

A protest by the OC May Day Coalition will take place at the Santa Ana City Council meeting on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 5:30 pm, regarding the contract between ICE and the SAPD. The SAPD is paid to jail immigrants who are arrested.

Organizers ask that you “Come early to sign up for public comments and let the council know that we are tired of them paying off their debt at the expense of our hard working immigrant communities. Not 1 more! No mas deportaciones!”

For Immediate Release – On Wednesday, May 7 and Thursday, May 8, the Santa Ana Unified School District Police Department will host, with the support of the California Highway Patrol and a dozen other agencies and sponsors, an event designed to provide a realistic depiction of the consequences of drinking and driving through a mock vehicle accident, memorial service, and an assembly. Due to a blown transformer and live wires down in the 2100 block of South Pacific there is a wide spread electrical power outage in the area.

All Latino Council, City Manager and Police Chief – but does it matter?

So Santa Ana now has an all-Latino City Council, a Latino City Manager and a Latino Chief of Police. But why then are the cops still conducting DUI checkpoints that rarely catch drunk drivers and most often result in harassing immigrants? And why are they still going after cruisers on Easter and Cinco de Mayo? And what is this business with putting immigrants in our city jail?

Not to mention all of these Latino city officials watching as our downtown gets cleansed of Latinos in order to mollify out of town hipsters.

In an effort to provide a safe environment and minimize the impact on our local neighborhoods, the Santa Ana Police Department will be deploying extra police personnel to deal with the influx of cruiser activity experienced on Cinco de Mayo (Monday, May 5th).

In years past, the City of Santa Ana has contended with large crowds, congested roadways, criminal activity, and quality of life issues that affect our residents, businesses and visitors. Therefore, to mitigate these issues, an increased police presence, lane restrictions and road closures will be in effect in the areas of Bristol Street from 17th Street to Callen’s Common, Main Street from 17th Street to Dyer Road, Edinger Avenue from Main Street to Raitt Street and Harbor Boulevard between Westminster Avenue and Edinger Avenue. SANTA ANA, CA (April 29, 2014) –After an exhaustive nationwide recruitment and interviewing process, City Manager David Cavazos has appointed twenty four year veteran Carlos Rojas as the new Chief of Police for the City of Santa Ana. Rojas has served as the Interim Chief of Police since March 2012.

“Chief Rojas has had a long outstanding career in law enforcement and performed exceptionally as the City’s Interim Chief of Police for the last two years. Every year on Easter Sunday SAPD puts our city on lockdown in an attempt to keep us in our homes and limit cruising. They block off all the major streets making it hard to move around Santa Ana. The irony is that they say it’s to prevent “grid-lock”. They also have extra police pulling over anyone they can for any reason they can come up with. Our Easter Sunday basically becomes Santa Ana Martial Law.

The real reason for these actions by the city and the police is rooted in racism and their need to suppress a popular gathering of the people. In other words, they don’t want brown people gathering in the streets. Continue reading→

Serial murderers of missing Santa Ana women arrested in Anaheim

Advisory: Serial Murder Arrest

On March 14, 2014 at 10:38 AM, Anaheim Police Officers were called to the recycling center in the 1100 block of N. Blue Gum Street to investigate the discovery of a deceased female, who was located by employees. Anaheim Homicide Detectives responded to continue investigation when evidence at the scene indicated the female, later identified as Jarrae Nykkole Estepp, 21, Resident of Oklahoma, had likely been murdered.

During the initial phase of our murder investigation, Homicide Detectives from the Santa Ana Police Department contacted us with information about three women, reported missing from their city. Based on information from our murder investigation and information from their missing person cases, a joint investigation was initiated. The missing women from Santa Ana have been identified as follows: Kianna Jackson, 20, Resident of Las Vegas. She was last seen in Santa Ana on October 6, 2013. Josephine Vargas, 34, Resident of Santa Ana. She was last seen in Santa Ana on October 24, 2013. Martha Anaya, 28, Resident of Santa Ana. She was last seen in Santa Ana on November 12, 2013. Here we go again. The City of Santa Ana has announced, as usual, a crackdown on Easter Crusing:

Each Easter holiday, the City of Santa Ana experiences a high volume of unsanctioned cruising activity on Bristol St. This unsanctioned activity produces public safety concerns, numerous calls for service and grid-lock.

As with past years, the Santa Ana Police Department is taking pro-active measures to deter cruising activity throughout the city on Easter evening. Unfortunately, several city neighborhoods will be affected by the various street closures that will be established as a part of the anti-cruising effort. Continue reading→

Santa Ana mom catches a school cop roughing up a kid at John Adams Park

Elvia Fernandez, a Santa Ana mom, is having trouble processing what she saw happen today at John Adams Park, in Santa Ana. She videotaped a burly Santa Ana Unified School District Police Officer who jumped on top of a kid he caught tagging at the park. Allegedly the cop threatened to pepper spray the kid.

According to eyewitnesses the child was perhaps fourteen years old. You can hear him crying in the video that Elvia shot. And the cop clearly shouts at Elvia and another bystander – demanding that they stop speaking in Spanish. They were telling the child to stop struggling and were trying to calm him down. Advisory: Homicide Detectives investigate apparent murder-suicide 2100 block 2110 E. Wellington

On Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at about 5:55 p.m., a family member called the police to request they check the welfare of a man and woman who resided at 2110 E. Wellington. Patrol officers entered the home where they found a 78-year-old female, Freda Bryson and 71-year-old male, Michael Worden in a bedroom with gunshots wounds. Orange County Fire Authority and paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced them both deceased. Continue reading→
