Shootings have increased 556% in Santa Ana since Cavazos and Rojas took power

Violent crime continues to increase in Santa Ana at an unbelievable rate, yet police staffing remains far below minimum staffing levels. What is inexperienced SAPD Police Chief Carlos Rojas doing to address this? Nothing. What is our overpaid City Manager David Cavazos doing to address this? Nothing. Why do they refuse to staff “Patrol Officers” to their recommended levels and the levels they have been budgeted for? And why doesn’t our City Council take action? I mean besides giving bonuses to Cavazos and his fellow city executives.

There are serious safety concerns to families, children and the business community of Santa Ana. Since Rojas took over in 2012, shootings are up 556%, according to a new report that I looked at today (which is about how much Cavazos is overpaid!) In 2012 in a six-month period (from January to June) there were 32 shootings as compared to the year-to-date in 2016, when there have been over 200 shootings in our city! Continue reading→

Violent crime, particularly gang-related shootings, are up this year in Santa Ana by historic numbers, as most of our readers know. But the new reality in our city might be worse than you think:

As compared to 2011, shootings are up 300% in 2016
YTD we have alread tallied 16 homicides as compared to 14 all of last year
A mother has been missing for several months – a possible Domestic Violence murder
In 2011 the SAPD had 400 officers and currently the SAPD has only 306 police officers on staff

Advisory: Santa Ana Experiences 29% Decrease in Shootings

In response to an increase in gang-related shootings during the month of January, 2016, the Santa Ana Police Department has deployed additional police oﬃcers and detectives to conduct proactive crime enforcement. This directed enforcement was purposefully concentrated in areas of our community most impacted by gang activity. The results thus far include 23 guns seized and 113 gang members arrested by SAPD gang detectives, and a 29% decrease in shootings during the month of February alone. Continue reading→

Over 600 crimes were committed in Santa Ana this week including 36 weapons charges

It was another bad week in Santa Ana, from January 18 through today as 622 crimes were committed, according to CrimeMapping, compared to 573 crimes in the previous week.

The crimes committed this week included 36 weapons charges ranging from Assaults with Deadly Weapons to Shootings at Occupied Dwellings. There were 55 weapons charges committed in Santa Ana in the week of January 11.

It was another bloody week in Santa Ana with 31 weapon-related crimes

It was another bloody week in Santa Ana with 31 crimes involving weapons, from January 11 to January 15, 2016, according to CrimeMapping. Nine of these crimes involved “Assaults with a Deadly Weapon” and six were “Disturbing the Peace/Fight” incidents involving weapons.

The shootings have continued in Santa Ana this week with four incidents reported since Monday

There have been 12 Weapons Reports, Assaults with a Deadly Weapon and Armed Disturbing the Peace Reports incidents in Santa Ana since yesterday, January 11, 2016, according to CrimeMapping. None of these have been reported to the local media by the SAPD.

There were also four DUI arrests in Santa Ana on Monday, Jan. 11, and no less than 17 reports of Domestic Violence and Assault/Battery over the past two days. Continue reading→

Three more shootings reported last night as Santa Ana’s gang war continues unabated

Friday was another bloody day in Santa Ana as yet another shooting took place. This time a man in his 20’s was shot in the face, at the 3300 block of South Bristol St., according to the O.C. Register.

The victim was found at South Bristol St. and and West MacArthur Blvd. He ended up at a local hospital, in serious condition.

The police were not able to find any witnesses to the shooting but several people heard a gunshot and three males were seen running into a light-colored truck and speeding away going north on Bristol. Continue reading→

Two men in Santa Ana shot while the rest of us rang in the New Year

It’s a New Year today but last year’s violence in Santa Ana has continued as two men were shot on New Year’s Eve and early on New Year’s Day, according to the O.C. Register.

SAPD police officers responded on Thursday night, at about 9:50 p.m., to a shooting call at the 1000 block of South Sullivan Street, just west of Jerome Park, where they found that a male homeless person had been shot from behind by an unknown attacker.

The homeless victim was shot in the lower calf and ended up at a local hospital with a wound that did not appear to be life-threatening. Continue reading→

Two more shootings went down in Santa Ana on Friday

A Santa Ana man was shot at but not hit while standing in front of his home Friday evening at around 8 p.m. at the 1300 block of Third Street, in a possible gang-related attack, according to the O.C. Register.

SAPD police officers found video surveillance footage from nearby Herperian and Third streets that showed four men, who were standing on a corner firing the shots.

No one was arrested as the suspects took off. This incident happened in Santa Ana’s Ward 1, which is represented by Mayor Pro Tem Vince Sarmiento. Continue reading→
