Community Alert: Free Citizenship Fair
In partnership with OCCORD, the Orange County Labor Federation, the Public Law Center, and NALEO, the City of Santa Ana is proud to present a FREE Citizenship Fair on Saturday, April 9th at the Southwest Community Center from 9 am to noon at the Southwest Center Center (2201 W McFadden Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92704).

Santa Ana’s Southwest Community Center is hosting a free Thanksgiving Day Dinner Dinner for the needy on Nov. 24. It will be served from 11:00 am – 3:00pm. Volunteer Hours run from 8:00am—5:00pm. Set-Up runs from 8:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. The Dinner Service will run from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. And clean up will run from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
The mission of the Southwest Community Center is to provide food, clothing, shelter, guidance, health, and referral services to economically disadvantaged individuals and families, and assist and encourage those whom they serve to achieve self-sufficiency. Continue reading

Santa Ana’s Southwest Community Center suffered a terrible fire last year, losing holiday food and gifts for the poor. Their structure had to be totally demolished.
Nine months later the Center has risen from the ashes, according to community activist Alan H. Woo, who posted the pictures in this post on his Facebook page.

The volunteers at Santa Ana’s Southwest Community Center are in mourning today, after “A late-night fire damaged their Santa Ana soup kitchen and destroyed $50,000 in food and holiday gifts that were to be distributed to needy families this weekend,” according to the L.A. Times.
The Times also reported that “the center serves breakfast and lunch every day to more than 200 people and dinner on Saturday,” according to their executive director, Connie Jones.
