It looks like we are going to be stuck with Tom Daly as our Assemblyman in the 69th Assembly District, with the news we broke today that his opponent, Jose Moreno, has withdrawn from the contest after being threatened with the loss of his job, via the federal Hatch Act.
But Daly is going to be toast in two years – and there will be no shortage of viable candidates available to take him out.

Jose Moreno’s campaign for the 69th Assembly District has ended – a result of a federal law, the Hatch Act, which prevents many employees of county governments from running for legislative seats – if federal funds are used by their departments. Moreno works for the Orange County Health Care Agency. As such his job was threatened – because union members and local liberal bloggers used the Hatch Act to attack him and to go after his job and his family’s well-being.
Moreno’s opponent, Orange County Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly, also appears to have a Hatch Act problem as his department takes federal money in order to fund their processing of U.S. passports. Daly is also embroiled in charges of sexual harassment.
Moreno will remain on the ballot and I will still be voting for him. Continue reading
Tom Daly, the Orange County Clerk-Recorder who was accused late last week of committing sexual harassment in the workplace, didn’t buy a candidate’s statement for the November General Election. Obvioulsy Daly felt at the time that he had the victory in the bag. Now that appears to be in question.
Daly has been losing support among area Democratic leaders for the past month. The sexual harassment accusations will hurt him even more as many in his party were not happy that he won in the June primary to begin with. Continue reading
On July 10 of this year I posted an article on this blog entitled “Shouldn’t Daly be investigated for Bustamante-like behavior.” Today it hit the fan for Daly, as “County officials are moving to hire a law firm to check into a host of sexual harassment and corruption allegations against County Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly, who is currently the frontrunner to become Orange County’s next State Assemblyman for the 69th District,” according to the Voice of OC.
The letter alleges that Daly has handed out promotions and engaged in inappropriate behavior with at least four female workers at the Clerk Recorders’ Office, which it refers to as “ Tommy’s Girls or Tommy’s Angels.” Continue reading
Solorio is a big fan of white male politicians
Assemblyman Jose Solorio wants to force insurance companies in California to buy services from minority owned businesses. He sent out a press release today announcing that “AB 53, authored by State Assemblyman Jose Solorio (D-Anaheim), has passed the Legislature and awaits the Governor’s signature. The legislation would encourage California’s insurance industry to consider diversity when entering into procurement contracts.”
The release also indicated that “Specifically, AB 53 requires major California insurers to file a report with the Insurance Commissioner regarding their outreach and procurement practices involving businesses owned by women, minorities, and disabled veterans.” Continue reading

The OC and CA Labor Federations held a meeting this week to meet the candidates for office here in Orange County. As one might expect, Tom Daly, the Democratic nominee for the 69th Assembly District failed to show up but he asked for their endorsement anyway. It turned out to be an epic fail for Daly.
Daly was completely rejected – and he should be. This two-faced hack says one thing to the Labor Federation then he goes over to the OC Taxpayers Association and says something else altogether. Santa Ana Council Member Carlos Bustamante’s arrest is a tragic situation that should have been resolved many years earlier.
I am deeply disappointed by our County government’s inability to quickly identify and take swift action against all those who didn’t do their job – upholding a workplace that is free from sexual harassment, abuse of authority and abuse of women.
It is a tragedy that many in our County government choose not to listen or turned a blind eye, possibly thinking an investigation would be too embarrassing, too financially costly or as seemingly apparent, a way to protect one of their own, regardless of the potential for serious criminal charges. Chris Nguyen, over at the Republican OC Political blog, spent a lot of time breaking down the vote in the 69th Assembly District, in the June 5 primary. It turns out that corporate Democrat Tom Daly won in Anaheim and in Santa Ana, which is no surprise as he spent a fortune and his friends in Sacramento and Anaheim spent even more.
Daly also benefited from being the only white candidate in a pool of Latino candidates. But the other story of note is that liberal union hack Julio Perez, who grew up in Anaheim, completely failed in that city. The Orange County Voter Registrar finally closed the ballot counting from the June 5 Open Primary, yesterday. Ultra liberal 69th Assembly District candidate Julio Perez lost by 242 votes to Republican Jose “Joe” Moreno, who will now face off against top vote-getter Tom Daly, a corporate Democrat, in the November General Election.
Perez and his union allies spent a small fortune and all they got out of it was third place. I have argued in a previous post that Perez and fellow Democrat Michele Martinez both erred by not attacking Daly, but there might be more to this story. Continue reading
The Orange County Voter Registrar announced today that “We have finished all of our ballot counting and required audit functions from the June 5th Primary Election. Registrar of Voters, Neal Kelley, will certify the final results tomorrow following the preparation of the Statement of Votes. Our election results this evening indicate “unofficial” until we finalize tomorrow. We will be including write-in votes tomorrow as well.”
What does that mean? It means the ballot counting is basically done. And so is ultra-liberal union hack Julio Perez, who continues to lose in the race for the 69th Assembly District. Even better, he is barely losing, to Republican candidate Jose Moreno, who barely spent any money in the primary. Perez is about 250 votes behind Moreno, according to the updated June 14 results that were released tonight at 5 pm. I hope the final margin is even closer than that! Continue reading
The 69th Assembly District is Orange County’s most Latino legislative district and it is currently represented by Jose Solorio, a former Santa Ana City Council Member and OCTA lobbyist. But in this month’s Open Primary Election the candidate who got the most votes was Orange County Clerk-Recorder Tom Daly. That was due in part to the presence of four Latino candidates on the ballot – all Democrats except for one Republican. The Orange County Voter Registrar updated the Open Primary Election results tonight at 5 pm and the bad news for liberal union hack Julio Perez is that he is still over 500 votes behind Republican Jose “Joe” Moreno, who spent almost no money on his campaign. Perez spent thousands and also benefited from a multitude of independent expenditures spent on his behalf by unions.
It is becoming clear that Perez is going to lose as he is not making up any ground as the votes continue to be tallied. This is no surprise to those of us who remember when the unions unloaded on behalf of former SAUSD Trustee Nativo Lopez, when he was facing a recall. It looks like Santa Ana Council Member Michele Martinez won’t be advancing in the race to replace Jose Solorio in the 69th Assembly District. So far the top two in that race are Tom Daly, a Democrat, and Jose Moreno, a Republican. Martinez is in fourth and the candidate that Orange County labor backed, Julio Perez, is in third. If you are not in the top two, it is game over!
Had labor backed Martinez she might well have made the top two. Instead Democrats are now stuck with Daly, who has a distinctly anti-Latino record as the former Mayor of /Anaheim. Moreno also is from Anaheim, which means that Santa Ana no longer has a horse in this race, thanks to labor and Perez, not to mention that other foolish Democrat, Francisco Barragan, who hardly got any votes at all.
I will be backing Moreno in November. We have several months to let Daly have it. He has a terrible record of wasting taxpayer resources, as the Orange County Clerk-Recorder. We will be bringing all of that out for sure. Continue reading
It is simply amazing how much mail the Julio Perez campaign and his friends in labor are sending out – daily. I am receiving at least two pieces per day. It reminds me of the recall of former SAUSD Trustee Nativo Lopez. My mail box drowned in pro Lopez mail, because at the time my wife was working at Disney, at a union job.
Now I am the one in a union – a teacher’s union. So this time I am being targeted by the unions. And they are destined to fail again, as they did in the Lopez recall.
