SANTA ANA, Calif. – A woman was charged with committing a hate crime, grand theft, and vandalism today for stealing three gold statues from a Buddhist temple in Santa Ana. Trang Thu Pham, 45, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of grand theft and one felony count of vandalism of a religious property with a sentencing enhancement allegation for committing a hate crime. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of six years in state prison. Advisory: UPDATE – SAPD Detectives Request Assistance In Locating Suspect Wanted In Theft Of Buddhist Statues

On 03/18/16 detectives received information that suspect Trang Thu Pham was in the 900 block of South Harbor Blvd. Detectives contacted Pham and she was placed in custody for the no bail probation violation warrant.

Pham was transported to SAPD where she was interviewed by detectives reference the current allegations. Based on that interview she was booked into the SAPD Jail for two counts of Grand Theft and the no bail warrant. Continue reading→

Advisory: SAPD Detectives Request Assistance In Locating Suspect Wanted In Theft Of Buddhist Statues

On February 26, 2016, the Chua Truc Lam Yen Tu Buddhist Temple located at 1924 West 2nd street had two of its Buddhist statues stolen from their property. Surveillance video recorded a female removing two statues (each about 2 feet tall) from a shrine adjacent to the sidewalk in front of the temple. The same female suspect returned to the temple on March 6th, 2016 and stole a third statue. Each statue is valued at $1,000.

After viewing surveillance video, the victim recognized the suspect as the same suspect that was arrested in 2015 for vandalizing another temple. The victim remembered the media coverage from the previous incident and searched the Internet for the story. Continue reading→

WOMAN TO FACE TRIAL FOR REPEATEDLY THROWING GLASS BOTTLES AT STATUES IN FRONT OF BUDDHIST TEMPLE

SANTA ANA – A woman is scheduled to face trial for repeatedly throwing glass bottles at statues in front of a Buddhist temple. Trang Thu Pham, 45, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of vandalism of a religious property, and one felony count of vandalism with damage of $400 or more. If convicted, she faces a maximum sentence of three years in state prison. Opening statements are scheduled to begin Monday, April 13, 2015, at 9:00 a.m. in Department C-29, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana.

Between Nov. 25, 2014, and Jan. 7, 2015, Pham is accused of throwing and smashing glass bottles on several religious statues outside of the Huong Tich Buddhist Temple (HTBT) in Santa Ana. On 10 separate days, HTBT employees noticed the broken glass and damage to the statues and contacted the Santa Ana Police Department (SAPD), who began investigating this case. The defendant was observed on surveillance cameras on three separate days throwing numerous bottles at the temple statues. Continue reading→

Advisory: Woman arrested for felony vandalism of place of worship

Arrested: Trang Thu Pham (45) Santa Ana

On 1-13-2015, Santa Ana Police Department Detectives were contacted by the Costa Mesa Police Department and advised them they had a woman detained in their city who was possibly the wanted suspect involved in the vandalism of the Hoc Tich Buddhist Temple.

A security officer working at a CVS Drug store on Harbor Blvd in the city of Costa Mesa recognized the woman from a story he saw on television news reports. The security officer located the news story on his cell phone and confirmed that it was a Santa Ana PD story. Costa Mesa PD officers responded to the store and detained the female. Continue reading→
