Santa Ana man gets 11 years in prison for stabbing a man to death at Underground DTSA

Remember when the gentrifiers promised that DTSA would be so much better and safer without all those Mexican bars? Well today Juan Angel Rivera, a 23-year old Santa Ana man who stabbed Nathan Alfaro, a fellow concert-goer, to death during a punk show at the Underground DTSA, was sentenced to 11 years in prison, according to the O.C. Register.

Rivera could have been sentenced to either probation or the minimum term of three years in prison. Instead Orange County Superior Court Judge Patrick H. Donahue gave him a far more severe sentence. Donahue noted in his comments that Rivera had an abnormal fascination with knives. Continue reading→

Santa Ana man convicted of manslaughter after stabbing another man to death at Underground DTSA

Juan Angel Rivera, 23, a Santa Ana resident who stabbed a fellow concertgoer, Nathan Alfaro, (a 23-year old resident of Westminster) to death during a March 2016 punk show at the Underground DTSA was convicted Monday of manslaughter, not murder, after jurors found that he acted in the heat of the moment, according to the O.C. Register.

Rivera is still looking at a prison term of up to 12 years. But if he had he been convicted of first-degree murder he could have ended up in prison for 26 years to life. Most likely he will not serve a full term as the State of California routinely lets inmates out of prison early. Continue reading→

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man is scheduled to face trial tomorrow for stabbing and murdering a concert attendee during a live performance in downtown Santa Ana. Juan Angel Rivera, 23, Santa Ana, was charged on March 8, 2016, with one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a knife. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison.

Opening statements are scheduled to begin tomorrow, April, 5, 2017, at 9:30 a.m. in Department C-40, Central Justice Center, Santa Ana. Continue reading→

Man who stabbed a concert-goer at Underground DTSA to be tried for murder

Juan Angel Rivera, a 22-year-old man, can face trial for stabbing a fellow concert-goer to death during a punk show at Underground DTSA , a downtown Santa Ana club, a judge ruled Wednesday, according to the O.C. Register.

Prosecutors are also going to pursue a murder charge against Rivera in connection to the fatal March 3 fight involving Rivera and Nathan Joe Alfaro inside the club. Continue reading→

MAN TO BE ARRAIGNED FOR STABBING-MURDER OF CONCERT ATTENDEE DURING LIVE PERFORMANCE

SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man is expected to be arraigned today for stabbing and murdering a concert attendee in Santa Ana during a live performance. Juan Angel Rivera, 21, Santa Ana, is charged with one felony count of murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a knife. If convicted, he faces a maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison. The People will request he be held on $1 million bail at his arraignment expected this afternoon in Department CJ-1, Central Jail, Santa Ana. The time is to be determined.

On the evening of March 3, 2016, Rivera is accused of attending a performance at Underground DTSA in Santa Ana where a band was performing. At approximately 10:30 p.m. as a band was performing, the defendant is accused of getting into a confrontation with 23-year-old Nathan Alfaro. During the confrontation, Rivera is accused of pulling out a knife and stabbing Alfaro multiple times in the torso. Rivera is accused of leaving the venue with several other people. The victim was transported to University of California, Irvine Medical Center where he died as a result of the multiple stab wounds. Continue reading→

The male victim, Nathan Joe Alfara (23) was inside the venue listening to punk music, when an altercation ensued and the suspect, Juan Angel Rivera (21) stabbed the victim in the upper torso. Man stabbed to death at a Top Acid Thursday punk rock show at Underground DTSA

It has happened again. A young man, Nathan Joe Alfaro, of Westminster, was murdered in Downtown Santa Ana, this time at a concert venue called Underground DTSA, on Thursday night, according to the O.C. Register.

A 23-year-old man was fatally stabbed when a fight broke out at about 10:30 p.m., inside Underground DTSA, which is located at 220 East Third St., in Santa Ana’s East End Promenade.

The fight broke out as the second of five punk rock bands scheduled to perform Thursday night was playing. “It was just one psycho dude who started a mosh pit,” musician Laena Geronimo said, according to KTLA. Continue reading→
